Kemonozume was labeld as "Adults Only!" when it was a TV show. To be hentai, it has to be either a movie (live action especially) or an OAV/OVA. The themes also have erotica in the list.
dormcat said in Ecchi and fan service ≠ erotica (and "adults only") thread:
I was just bringing this to your attention. |

I don't consider it erotica but, just like Oruchuban Ebichu, it should remain "Adults Only!" title. There are many sexual scenes, and overall Kemonozume is a mature/adult themed title.
Not that long ago we also had Kiss×sis as "Adults Only!" and I am glad it was toned down to Mature, as it is more appropriate. |

Hentai_JP, I completely agree with you about Kemonozume. There are quite a few scenes that are either hot n' heavy or all out sex minus the genitalia, and thus could be considered an "Adults Only" kind of title.

I can see what you're saying. However, while Dormcat's definition seems sufficient to differentiate between ecchi and erotica, I think it's missing a key element to determine erotica in otherwise non-ecchi shows. Unless a show is meant first and foremost to titillate the viewer (this is pretty much assumed already in ecchi) then I don't think it can rightly be called erotica. Also, my concern with assigning either an erotica tag or an AO rating in this case may be misleading even despite perhaps being accurate. People tend to assume that Adults Only means pornography. In fact, I personally passed up seeing Kemonozume despite it being recommended to me for this very reason. Maybe it can accurately be described as a show suitable for adults only. However, unless it is actually pornography calling it that will just give people a false impression. |

How can it be Adults Only if it was shown on TV?

dormcat had already removed the erotica genre from Kemonozume, and I just added the Mature age rating. Hentai_JP, thanks for bringing ebichu to my attention; I also changed it to Mature.
As said at various times before, Adults Only/erotica is meant for porn. There is no difference between Mature and Adults Only in terms of age-appropriateness; it's only a difference in the kind of mature content. In other words, both are for adults but Adults Only is intended as porn while Mature is not. And that's why we introduced the erotica genre; because it reflects the fact that Adults Only is a genre indicator at the same time as it is an age indicator. |

Even though they aren't hentai, it is understandable why some TV shows would get that label since the nudity and sex really pushes the boundary of what can be shown on TV. Gantz episodes 15-16 are good examples.
