This is one of the more ridiculous announcements I've heard in a long time.

Not really. The Musha Gundam franchise that this is more or less a spin-off of has been around in some capacity since the 80's. It's just an excuse to make really ornately designed SD Gundams vaguely themed around Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
I am still somewhat surprised though.

Basically we'll get lots of SD Gundams in ornate classic Chinese armor instead or ornate samurai armor.

This is really bad. I mean when you've seen the greatness of serious storytelling then you can't stoop down to children's fantasy. Gundam is too good to appeal to a dmographic that is only learning to spell words like 'blue'
Gundam Wing is the best in my opinion, and SD Gundam would be destroying all Wing did to bring Gundam outside Japan.

Gundam is already dead in America, so it's not like Bandai cares anymore.
And lol@wing being the best.

Do you even know what the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is? Children's fantasy it is not.

So kids can't like your edgy adult Gundam shows.
That are
you know
made for kids.

Well, anybody know the numbers that Gundam 00 pulled during its run on Sci-Fi (and yes, I'm not calling it SyFy)?

Vicserr, it can hard to find the viewing demographics of cable anime. My guess was it was in the mid six figures to maybe over a million,
