Anyone else read about this? It's like listening to the old homeless guy who hangs around the store where I work. Even putting aside the arguably hypocritical nature of his criticisms this makes very little sense. I love how he just starts pulling numbers out of nowhere. "Let's say we have about three billion people on this planet wasting their time, bringing no productivity at all. Add 10 billion more people, and what would happen to our planet? Video games are assisting the death of our planet!" Or how about the part where he randomly brings up how great Tetris was. Isn't it also 'evil' though? I mean is it in any way productive? Apparently nostalgia trumps logic. I always found his work too dated to really enjoy but never particularly disliked it or him. This really makes me shake my head though. |

As much as I love him, Tomino can be like that sometimes. All the old guys in anime are getting like that. Miyazaki's like that. Anno... well, he's just a weird guy to begin with. Oshii might be getting there, too. I haven't heard anything controversial from Leiji Matsumoto, though.
It shouldn't be taken to heart. You should nudge him and go, "Oh, you. Come on, I'll buy you a soda, we'll put together some gunpla." |
