I'm dumbfounded how that would work. But they sort of got away with it in the LA Sukeban Boy, so...BTW, the anime was only released on VHS.

I guess Go Nagai is an acquired taste. One of the first animes I saw was his Mazinger Z. That was like over 16 years ago.

ADV, we're still waiting for the Abashiri Family dvd
Go Nagai is one of the greatest pioneers in the Manga/Anime field, too bad modern audiences can't bask in the sheer insanity of his works, remember how many people couldn't get their heads around what Imagawa did with the 1st episode of Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen? as they rather go with the moe and the eroge adaptations.

Vicserr, you are right that people lately like to go with moe and eroge adaptations.

Oh my gawd, they're just thinking about doing this?
Y'know I had wanted to check out the Abashiri Family years ago when it was first released on VHS. But by that time it was long out of print. I wish it could be re-released. Fat chance.
Well, if they can make a 'Kekko Kamen' live action why not?
Now if someone would re-release a decent hybrid version of the 'Devilman' features I'll die a happy camper.

Erica Tonooka's not exactly the tomboy I'd have had in mind for an Abashiri Family film. Though that might be due to the fact that she appears to have difficulty being photographed in anything other than a bikini.

So many anime are out of print on VHS only that if we were to put them all on DVD, that would be an economic problem itself.

I've never seen this one. The old lady in Shin Mazinger is supposed to be based on this show's heroine, right? Is Ankokuji in this series too? I saw a manga cover recently that seems to suggest so. I know Danbei's in it but... Let's face it, Danbei's in EVERYTHING. :p
Now, if only Go and Hollywood would get together to bring Mazinger to the big screen in a "proper" way (yeah, I know, that's a pipe dream, even if it happened, Hollywood would find some way to ass-rape it)...

Kikunosuke (Shin Mazinger) is named after Abashiri Family's main character. But she's based on a different character from the same series. I don't know her original name but she's a ghost that haunts their house.

RedLeader: Strangely, enough, I think Transformers was too "mature" for Bay, but Mazinger would be perfect enough for him to adapt.

It of course depends on which material you'll base it on. The 1972 show was cheesy, like all super robot shows from that period.
But if you're going for something like Shin Mazinger Zero, this shit gore + guro.

Yes, and now your anti-domestic industry soapboxing is again threatening to take this thread off course. Michael Bay and how much you hate him and all of US industry is not relevant here. Stay on topic.
