Does anybody else have a show or two where every time you see it on the preview/trailer list you are overwhelmed with the desire to watch it? Maybe the music is catchy, or it has nostalgic value for you, but you just can't scroll past it without hitting play. I've got a couple.
Kodocha. I have zero desire to see this show, but for some reason I find myself extremely entertained by the little Sana rap deal. That sort of synthy music when the dude says "For a love song it was kind of bitter" near the end also makes me think of Earthbound for the SNES. Neo Ranga. For this one it's all about music. It's much more exotic than anythin I'd come across during my day, and it makes me think of the farmers in Zatoichi (this one). Neo Ranga is another show where I don't expect to ever buy it, but I still can't stop watching. Haibane Renmei. This one is a little bit music, a little bit nostalgia. I found it on my Lupin DVD, the first anime DVD I ever bought. This was way before I knew ANN existed, so when I saw it for the first time I was taken aback by how different it looked and I really wanted to know more. Don't ask why I didn't just google it, I don't know why. Anyway, this one I eventually bought, but whenever I buy old Genion/Pioneer shows with this preview, I still watch it. The one thing all three of these have in common is that they don't disclose much, if anything, about the plot of the show and they have music that catches my attention. This is apparently the winning combination for getting me to notice series, but apparently they don't affect my buying tendencies very much. So how about you? Do you find that you tend to buy the series if you like the trailer, and what makes you like trailers? |

Just one.
As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it, and so Gasaraki became the second Anime series I ever bought on DVD. Even before I had purchased the first DVD I had watched it countless times. Though I own the complete series, when I see it in the previews (not that often nowadays, unfortunately) I make a point to watch it. Of course, having downloaded it from YouTube means I can watch it whenever I like, which is always a plus. I hate having to remember which DVD has what previews on it. |

In my opinion, Bandai makes the best anime trailers out of all the companies (...well usually). I like trailers that actually show and tell you what the story is going to be about, using actual dub lines and music from the series, rather just using just the opening sequence without credits. Three fine examples of this are Infinite Ryvius, Witch Hunter Robin, and Scryed. Once I saw those I had to have those series and bought them.

For me it's ADV's first trailer for Le Chevalier d'Eon, although they stopped using that one once the first volume was out. Always thought it gave an excellent sense of both the tone and spirit (heh) of the series.
Really, though, the anime trailers out there worth repeat viewings are few and far between, unlike movie trailers. (Can't tell you how many times I rewatched the first trailer for Watchmen, but it was a lot.) |

My ALL TIME favorite anime trailer:
Full Metal Panic (don't worry it's not the fanservicey version) I especially love the transition between the dramatic scene of that girl being rescued by the mecha then an image of young Chidori right when the chorus changes. Also the part were Tessa's dancing. Just an amazing trailer that I can watch over and over, regardless of my ability to watch the show (I don't have it on DVD ![]() Last edited by P€|\||§_|\/|ast@ on Wed Aug 26, 2009 3:29 am; edited 1 time in total |

My favorite trailer of a show I've never seen is one that was actually released by Tokyopop, Spring and Chaos. It looks very interesting to me, but at the same time fills me with a sense of melancholy. So while I think that it will be good, I am somewhat hesitant to ever actually sit down and actually watch it. Added to that is the fact that I've never seen the DVD anywhere. I imagine I could find it online, but like I said, I haven't really felt like looking. I've seen the trailer nearly a dozen times though.
I found the trailer here. (annoying ads, but that's the only one I found that worked) |

I couldn't think of something straight away then I remembered one trailer I realy like. My favirout is the trailer to the Cowboy Bebop movie. It is a mix of the stuff that made the show great including cool music, and ausome one liners. Actualy thinking about it I am wondering why I don't own this movie, now I have to get it.

Kanon 2006
I remember when I first started watching anime, I was looking for something to watch on ANN and I thought I'd give this show a quick preview. I almost cried watching this trailer; I don't cry much (especially over a trailer). Just something about it (I think it's the narrator) makes me feel all mushy inside. I knew from the very moment I watched it, including the several times after wards, I was going to love it. Little did I know it would hold a permanent spot as my number one anime. Good trailer ADV. Another trailer I love is yet another ADV one, Air. I didn't get as mushy as I did with Kanon, but I still got kind of soft watching it. It's always fun when you think you'll like a show from the trailer and then you really do end up liking it. EDIT: Alright, I have changed the Air trailer I had to the official one because, honestly, I didn't know what video I chose. I had to pick one blind. My internet was loopy at the time and so I had to blindly choose one that seemed to be the right length and hope it was the right one. It wasn't and I'm sorry for blinding all of you. I just looked at the trailer to the Kanon dub you posted, though I prefer the series in Japanese it was almost makeing me cry aswell. I think for me it was partialy the music, Kanon has some wonderous music and the one used is often used in special scenes and is similar to the op which is one of my favirouts aswell as a favirout series. I so want the series to be released in Australia. |

I don't really remember how many times I have seen the trailers for Rebuild of Evangelion 1 and 2. The trailer for the second movie is such a great composition of music and visuals, I get the chills everytime I see it. The piece in the background is also my new ringtone...
The other trailer, while not strictly anime, is the trailer for Avatar Book 3: Fire. This has to be the trailer I have seen the most, and that by far. Having been a huge fan of seasons 1 and 2, I watched the trailer probably every second day while waiting for the new season to begin. And what a great trailer it is, combining awesome music with WTF-Moments that lead to discussion (Does Aang transform into Roku?), great fight sequences, and of course hearing the voice actors again Katara's "I will never ever turn my back on people who need me" is simply the best part of the trailer. And I, too, don't know how often I have seen the Watchmen trailer - and then I missed the movie when in was in theaters ![]() |

The main trailer that comes to mind, and that I've cited in past threads like this, is Mahoromatic, the 3-minute trailer for the first season. It starts out with cool/dramatic music and dark action scenes, and then cuts to the "Mahoro de Mambo" ED to show off the fanservice/harem side of the show. Geneon/Pioneer used to do trailer "reels," after they switched from the catalogue of still images but before they went to a trailers menu with 3 selections. For awhile, I'd always watch the Mahoromatic trailer when it came up in the reel, even after I'd seen the series. |

Even though I've already seen Gunslinger Girl (the original series), if I pop in a Funimation DVD and find the GG trailer on it, I still watch it because it's just that compelling.
Some could argue that the Gunslinger Girl trailer is a bit deceptive, as it teases potential viewers with a sample of the close-combat and gunfight sequences, despite the fact that this series is a _drama_ series punctuated by intense action, not a primarily action series with dramatic/emotional interludes. (Of course by definition, I suppose all trailers are "deceptive" to a small extent, since they have to use as much sizzle as possible to sell a movie, series, etc.) I for one do not see any outright deception in the trailer (having previously read the manga and thus being prepared for and familiar with the overall tone of the series as a result). To me the extreme close-up of Claes's dilating pupils and the catchphrase "They've been given a second chance at life...But at what cost?" spells out the fact that viewers are in for way more than just a nonstop thrill ride, as does the tragic and almost operatic in scope musical score used. Hearing the backstory of the Social Welfare Agency also emphasizes the dramatic tour-de-force that Gunslinger Girl promises. All this plus samples of an impressive English dub adds up to what in my book is still the most thorough yet spoiler-free encapsulation/sales pitch for an outstanding series I've seen in recent years. EDIT: Where are my manners? Link to trailer now attached above. Last edited by nagato316 on Fri Aug 28, 2009 12:59 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I'd have to agree with Key that oftentimes trailers for anime aren't all that good. Recent Funimation efforts have been more engrossing and unique...half the time. Then the other half of the time they're just a bit embarrassing, they seem so forcedly over-epic.
So it depends. I usually watch them when I see them if they're even remotely constructed like a trailer should be and aren't just the OP or poorly thrown around footage that leaves you clueless. (Geneon... >_> ) BUT! This is hands down my favorite anime trailer ever. Animeworks' supertrailer for Berserk It's actually a bit longer than this, with release info and the big ole title, but this is the best part. I mean it LOOKS like a movie trailer, or a really BOSS AMV. I enjoy watching it several times like I would a great AMV, actually, and that's the only preview I can really say that about. P.S. I like this thread. All these trailers are cool. ![]() Yeah...I think I like Bandai's trailers a lot too. ![]() |

Funny, I always thought Bandai's trailers were kinda boring. Well, the older ones anyways, I could never get through any of their Gundam trailers...
I agree 100% with everything you said about GG's trailer! My first viewing of it is the one and only time I was completely sold on a series based solely on the trailer; no rental, just buy (usually a trailer just peaks my interest into renting said series). I do remember thinking "it doesn't have as much action as the trailer suggests" but by that time I really didn't care; I was immersed. I still watch it whenever I come across it. Another one is the first trailer of Pani Poni Dash! It puts a big smile on my face every time I see it. ADV really did a splendid job at capturing its randomness, and the 'matter-of-fact' tone of the narration makes it all the better. EDIT: Forgot to add that I too am one of those people who hates it when the 'trailer' is just the opening of the show. I like to at least get an inkling of plot or character or even mood & tone. |

Although I don't like the series (it stands for everything I hate in a Macha title), the trailer for Godannar is one of the best and most memorable Anime trailers out there, period. Incredibly funny (even to me) yet entirely informative, it really makes no bones as to what the show is about; big robots and bigger cleavages, with a campy sense of humour.
