Key already answered that question.

While this might bring in enough new people to compensate for the ones we'd lose, I don't think you're overestimating here.
Anyway, at this time, Best Team/Organization and Biggest Badass are the two certain to be on the vote, as both have extensive support and established evaluating criteria. Best Non-Human is too fraught with potential problems, so it's out. I'm leaning towards Best Older Character and Best Supporting Character as the other two options, as both could be defined and have criteria set for them, but I'm honestly not too enthusiastic about either. I'm not going to make up another clever idea at the last minute like I have the last two times (because they tend to win!), so almost certainly the vote will come down to the first two.
I will put the vote up probably around 11 hours from this post, so there's still some time for more feedback and suggestions.

Most Fearsome character. That could include a lot of characters but I just can't come up with a way to explain it (will give it more thought and if anything results I'll edit here later). This would probably cause a crossfire against Biggest Badass though.

Now how did I manage to miss that? Thanks for telling me though. I wanted to say "thanks for reminding me" but I didn't know it in the first place.

But what if I am? Surely a Biggest Badass tournament would appeal to the male 13-24 demographic, which I hear is a common one on the Internet. Sure we might get dozens of badly-written posts, but at least we would have a great voter-base as well as a thriving - albeit unreadable - thread.

I still think that best supporting would make a really fun, albeit slightly more challenging tournament. I think there's a lot of characters that would get swept under the carpet in most of the tournaments that have been and will be that really deserve some of the limelight of their primary role brothers. You would easily fill your 128 spots, and I think it would be quite an unpredictable contest as people would have to give a lot more thought as to where they cast their vote. Plus it was my idea
I don't mind the Team thing though, but I would take supporting over badass any day. The idea just thoroughly interests me. Maybe since Shu won the last tournament, Sara could win this one? Heh. But what will be will be.

The thing about Biggest Badass, in addition to the previously mentioned demographic implications, is that it seems inherently more subjective and whimsical than most of the other alternatives I've seen around here.
Yes, I realize that all contests or tournaments have a certain degree of the above, inevitably, but this isn't exactly something that's easy to regulate, define or measure beyond pure scale and personal preference. I would be interested in seeing Key or some of the other contributors set up appropriate rules though, which may or may not compensate for this, but I'm not exactly thrilled about it.
Having said that, I'd probably still participate one way or another and support the different nominees.

Next Tournament: The Vote
Time to put it to a vote, people. Although I'm putting four options out there, I only regard the first two as serious contenders. Anyway, here are the rules:
1. Any registered forum member in good standing (i.e. not banned) may vote, regardless of participating or not in past tournaments.
2. Voting will continue until 11:59 p.m. U.S. EST (that's GMT-6) on Saturday or until 24 hours pass without a vote, whichever comes first.
3. Vote for and/or against up to two total options. "For" votes may be ranked or not as you wish.
4. Primary or singular "for" votes count 4 points, secondary "for" votes count 2 points, and two unranked "for" votes count 3 each. "Against" votes count -2 points. (For example, if you voted for option A and against option B, then A scores 4 and B scores -2.)
I know this is a bit different scoring system than we've used before, but I want the voting to be able to reflect cases where people strongly oppose certain options (which we haven't had in the past).
The options:
Best Team/Organization: For groups of 3+ members which have a formally established name and structure but are not large-scale military or political bodies. (Small subdivisions of such entities are fine, however.) This option would evaluate contestants based on factors including sense of group identity, internal chemistry, effectiveness as a group, legacy/influence, and support for the mood and tone of the source anime.
Biggest Bad-Ass: For characters who do whatever they do with attitude, skill, and eye-popping displays of toughness. The aforementioned factors plus style and accomplishments would be the major evaluating criteria.
Best Supporting Character: For character who take second (or lower!) chair to the main protagonist(s) but still contribute substantially to a title's success. Major evaluating criteria would include character development, effectiveness in his/her role, story impact, and entertainment value.
Best Old Character: For middle-aged or older characters who prove they can still hang in an anime title with the young 'uns. Evaluating criteria would be basically the same as for Supporting Character.
It should be no surprise that I'll start by voting for (and only for) Best Team/Organization.

I'll vote for Best Team/Organization. Sorry about the change, just changed my mind.
I'll vote against Best Supporting Character, since I have the feeling it would be extremely boring.

I vote for Best Team/Organization (It's probably going to win) and against Biggest Bad-Ass. I woudn't mind seeing Best Elder character as a winner either.

My primary vote is for Biggest Bad-Ass.
My secondary vote is for Best Old Character.
Edit: I decided on a vote against: Best Team / Organization (if I only get to make 2 votes, remove my secondary vote)

My primary vote is for Biggest Badass because I've been in favor of this one for the past 3 tournaments. It would be sad if it got passed up yet again for a 4th time.
My secondary vote is for Best Old Character because I think while primarily the same as Best Supporting Character the nominations for this one would be more interesting.
My primary vote against is Best Team/Organization because I think it could become uneven. Teams of 3-4 going against teams of 7+ for example. How do we qualitatively compare them? Sure the larger team may have accomplished more but did they by merit alone or just by sheer numbers? I see too many loopholes with this one.
My secondary vote against is for Best Supporting Character because it's primarily the same as the Best Old Character idea but that one would have a more interesting selection of characters I think.
