I apologize if this has already been done, but I searched for it and found nothing. Now, onto the topic.
What are you favorite individual scenes from an anime? I'm not talking about your favorite show, or even you favorite single episode, so please don't try to bring those up. Again, individual scenes. I'll request that you spoiler each scene, no matter how early in an anime or how old the anime is. It's a great scene to you for a reason, no need to ruin that scene for someone else. Anyways, here a few of my favorite scenes: Bokura Ga Ita (episode 20) - spoiler[In a series so full of emotion, this scene really stood out above the rest. Towards the end of the episode, Nana and Yano meet up late at night because Yano wants to return Nana's notebook (and, presumably, simply spend time alone with her). It, of course, climaxes with a kiss after Yano tells Nana that eternity does exist, but what's so amazing about this scene is the way it encapsulates the essence of young love. The struggle between one's desire to be together and the limitations one's place in society imposes upon this desire. The way the time spent together feels infinite, and yet transient at the same time. It's really beautiful.] ToraDora (episode 2) - spoiler[The light pole scene was what clued me in that ToraDora was going to be awesome. Not only did it feel so real, but it was such a great way to represent all that frustration that was pent up inside of them. The "tilt" bit at the end was just icing on the cake. It was not the reaction I was expecting from the couple (nor the reaction most romantic comedies has conditioned me to expect) after the rumors that started flying around the school.] ToraDora (episode 9) - spoiler[In my head, I remember this scene as the one with Taiga's feet resting on Ryuuji's back. For me, this scene epitomizes their relationship. The total ease they feel with one another, their reliance on each other for support, and the intimacy between them are all rolled up in that position they sit in as they talk about their scheming to hook up Ryuuji with Minori.] Last edited by tarheel91 on Tue Aug 18, 2009 4:53 pm; edited 1 time in total |

You could've added a "s" to the title but nice thread anyway.
Here goes my list (I won't go through episodes so in case someone who haven't seen the anime yet and still look at it): Pumpkin Scissors: spoiler[When they bring back a tank for inspection from their last mission and it's sabotaged. Machs is stuck in front of the tank the enemy took control of and Oland saves him, meanwhile he's holding Machs up his shoulders after getting hit by the tank and destroying the tank afterwards. ] Bleach: spoiler[During Ichigo's raid into soul society, he's fighting against Byakuya Kuchiki but his hollow side takes over during the fight resulting in a draw.] Code Geass R2: spoiler[In the ending when everyone despises Lelouch while he's on his parade followed by Zero's appearance and finally Lelouch's death (which was totally unexpected for me).] Darker Than Black: spoiler[When Hei's inside the Hell's Gate on a mission to recover a meteor fragment and while fighting Nick he sees his sister's illusion followed by Nick's dreams finally being realised. ] That should be enough. |

My favorite anime scenes are usually action.
Black Lagoon spoiler[When Rock flips off the helicopter as the/ ramp the PT boat up and fire the torpedoes.] Blue Gender spoiler[The last fight with the "mother Blue" SICK!] Princess Mononoke spoiler[The scene where Ashitaka goes to the defense of the village being massacred.] Claymore spoiler[When Claire is about to transform, and Rocky brings her back.] Skycrawlers spoiler[Overall didn't care for this movie but every dogfight in the series I liked. Too bad they were few and far between.] |

I hate to do anal corrections, but since I learned Galatea actually teleports, I guess, I'll help with the description: spoiler[Clare is not about to transform - she is unable to revert her advanced awakening. Raki, not Rocky, fails to bring her back now (unlike he did in Rabonna). The one who saves Clare by draining her youki is Jean, which she does at the cost of her own life - basically, returning Clare the favour for saving her from complete awakening in the battle with Dauf]. |

Seems interesting enough, some scenes are surely better than others.
Maison Ikkoku (but I'm actually going on the manga here) spoiler[Yusaku's proposal, he proposed to her while carrying her drunk father back and it was still the sweetest thing ever. At least, that's how it went in the manga, not 100% sure on the anime] Princess Tutu, other than the whole show (and in particular the entire last disc) and to get it down more specifically spoiler[first:Fakir crying when a small duck comes up to comfort him and he holds the duck and cries to a beautiful piano piece. He gives the duck the pendant he found earlier at the end of the scene too] spoiler[Duck's dance as a duck that breaks the curse of the raven on the townsfolk while Fakir writes for her] Oban Star Racers spoiler[Very end of the series when Jordan accepts the place of the avatar in place of Molly and as Molly and Team Earth leave Oban (minus Jordan), the single tear that runs down his face. I cried on that one.] Interstella 5555 spoiler[During the scene where Shep (aka the guy introduced in song 3 who has the guitar spaceship) is freeing the band members on stage and when he gets to Stella (the only girl/bassist), there's a long pause that does not end well. I'm talking about that long pause actually, it made me hold my breath. The song with it is Superheroes and the scene occurs right when the words "Hope is in the air" stop being said.] Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi spoiler[The hot dog scene from the Hollywood episode. I mean, dear god, just youtube this one, it's beyond description.] Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann spoiler[other than the arc ending episodes, which were all epic great, I'm talking about when Simon comes out of his depression in episode 11, that alone was also tear-worthy for me.] Avatar: The Last Airbender (I don't particularly care that it's not quite anime, it's pretty close) spoiler[Plenty of good scenes, but some of the highlights included the book 1 finale at the North Pole, Toph figuring out metal bending, and the episode The Western Air Temple, in which Zuko attempts to join the group, and they just rip him apart, not that he didn't full well deserve it, but you couldn't help feel sorry for him, he was willing to offer himself as a prisoner too. Also, Azula's mental breakdown in the 4 part finale, my god that was satisfying.] I'm sure to add more to this list as time goes on, of course. |

Clannadspoiler[Can't get much funnier then when Tomoya gets Ryou to stand in for him when Fuko blanks out and Fuko gets convinced that "it falls off sometimes" and he becomes a girl. Even Tomoya was holding his sides while listening to Fuko freaking out over it aswell that it might attach to her and she will become Futaro. Aswell also the time Kyou asked if Tomoya could see her waving a wand around, and he imagines Kyou as a magical girl, then bursts out laughing , and Kyou threatning to hurt him.]
Kanonspoiler[When Yuuichi tricks Makoto into thinking to show she is an adult, that she wouldnt care about getting a "porno magazine", Makoto's reaction afterwards is funny. And when Yuuichi walks in on Makoto taking a bath.] Hayate no Gotokuspoiler[Hard to think of one specific, but maybe when Hayate whent to the underground dungeon, gets poisoned, and when he asks priest how he survived being poisoned the priest replies he didn't and points ti his skeliton a short distance away.] |

Spirited Away: spoiler[When Chihiro is flying on Haku's back back to home, they find out Haku's name and origin. Great twist + One of the most emotional moments I've seen in Anime, gives me the chills everytime I see it.]
Cowboy Bebop: spoiler[When Spike falls out of a church window during a fight with Vicious, through beautiful flashback sequences we find out about Spike's past. The music, art and editing is beyond excellent.] |

I have noticed that many of my favourite scenes are those with great music. Man, I'm such a sucker for a great insert song.
If you watch a lot of Anime Music Videos that all relate to a single show (as in ten AMV's that are just about Escaflowne for example), then you can quickly get a grasp of which scenes the fanbase really enjoyed. They tend to be the ones used repeatedly, often at the stirring climax of the song or the best parts of the chorus. I don't re-watch a lot of Anime, which is a shame considering I own so much of it on very expensive DVDs. But I do have a few favourite scenes, mostly from Mecha Anime, so bear with me. Gundam SEED (episode forty): spoiler[I've got to say that the Freedom's debut in episode thirty-four - followed by a kickass second debut in episode thirty-five - were pretty darn awesome. However, episode forty has an even better scene, right at the end where the Freedom and Justice are covering the Kusanagi's launch. The insert song that is played - Akatsuki no Kuruma - is just incredible, and it really is quite a beautiful and touching scene. Okay, so Cagalli's cry at the end wasn't too good, especially in the dub, but I don't really care. Add to that the first appearance of one of my all-time favourite ED's, FIND THE WAY, and you get one hell of a memorable scene.] Gundam SEED Destiny (episode two): spoiler[Surprised to see me mention this series here in this thread? Well don't be, because it has one of the most energetic opening run of episodes you'll see in any Mecha series, not just a Gundam show. And nothing better represents that energy and the sheer promise the show had than the beginning of episode two. Great battle music, great choreography, and more action and excitement than you can shake a beam sabre at, the entire episode was fantastic, and the first few minutes of it even more so. Yeah you have to sit through a recap before the credits, but once the OP has finished it's all on. I've watched that particular episode more than a dozen times - easy - and yet I still never tire of the shocked expressions on Sting's and Stella's faces as Shinn charges them with his twin BFS. That's what Mecha Anime should have more of; no eloquent speeches that wax lyrically about whatever philosophy the pilot holds, just a high-octane smash-fest.] Gundam SEED Destiny (episode seven): spoiler[Yes, another inclusion from this most horrid of series. Colony drops are a Gundam staple, yet few shows in the franchise - if any - have done it so well. The previous episode had finished with an incredible scene where Kira was left with his mouth open as Junius Seven entered the atmosphere; the next episode would not disappoint. Fields of Hope being sung while images of massive destruction were played really worked. We got to see a massive tsunami taller than a skyscraper wiping away a coastal town, many major cities being wiped away, and two thirds of the way through the song we watch as even more fragments started raining down, as if there hadn't of been enough damage caused already. It was probably the highlight of the entire show, and the series never managed to reach that sort of wonderful quality again. Pity.] RahXephon (episode twenty-four): spoiler[Okay, this won't be long, because it doesn't have to be. Ayato and Haruka's kiss on the deck of the evacuation ship is one of Anime's best smooches, period.] Finally, one without an insert song or wicked background music. Don't take the fact that it is a short one to mean that it is the worst out of the four; it's actually the best, by far. I would go so far as to venture that at least half of all the RahXephon AMV's out there have the above scene. With very, very good reason. |

Negima! - spoiler[When Ayaka realizes why Asuna brings Negi to her home.]
Kanon - Second DuskyPredator except for spoiler[The Makoto bathtub scene.] Cowboy Bebop - spoiler[Jet and Spike note the message left on the Bebop's deck by Ed. ![]() Clannad - Every single one of them. Magic Knight Rayearth - spoiler[Whoa! Didn't see that ending coming!] Elfen Lied - I'm not going to add a spoiler to this as the favorite scene was what I found to be the most shocking. Not because of the nature of the scene, but how it impacted me to garner such a shock. Good or bad, a favorite instills emotion. Hell Girl - spoiler[The ferrying of the nurse who realizes she's being sent to hell for no damn reason other than humans just suck as a species.] Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - spoiler[Going from black and white (grainy) to full color (crisp) while she introduces herself to the class. Absolutely artistic.] Strawberry Marshmallow - spoiler[The face planting of Miu. You'll understand when you see it.] Damn, I could add so many more. I'll stop here. Now I want to go watch all of them again. |

The most memorable scenes for me tend to be the ones that effect me emotionally.
I've got two examples from my fave anime, Dennou Coil:spoiler[Late in the series there's an episode where Yasako is trying to rescue her sister Kyoko from rampant null carriers (think wraiths or something similar) and she finds a secret hallway in her grandmother's house covered with metatags. The whole area is covered in a beautiful green glow, and it's one of the few times I've probably audibly gasped while watching a show by myself.] Then there's the scene in the last episode spoiler[where Yasako meets with her dog, Densuke, one last time ]and it's one of the most heart-wrenching scenes I think I've ever seen in an anime (or anywhere, really). From Revolutionary Girl Utena: spoiler[Right at then end, where Anthy lays down her glasses on Akio's desk and leaves the school grounds. Even though no one else seems to remember Utena, she fulfilled her role as the prince and got Anthy to wake up from her dream and live her life in the real world, which just sums up the series so well.] |

Those were some pretty good moments, I kind of sped a bit to fast through Dennou Coil, now I am thinking about Densuke, for a virtual dog he sure had character. I kind of wish I could take time and watch it on a DVD as it has merit as being something that one could take time to watch, but sadly not much of a chance at getting a multi region release. |

I have a dog who looks and acts very much like Densuke, so I was pretty much a mess of tears during this scene - it didn't help that my little guy chose that moment to plop down on my lap for a snuggle. While I'm in here, some of my favorite scenes: Cowboy Bebop - Episode 24: When Faye spoiler[goes back to where her house used to be, draws an outline of her bed in the dirt, and lies down there and looks up at the sky.] I had spent most of the series feeling very little sympathy for Faye (although that changed a bit after her backstory episode), but this scene just struck me in a certain way and made me really feel for her, and I've always remembered it. Arjuna - The motorcycle ride in the first episode, which was some of the most gorgeous animation I've ever seen. The colors of the landscapes and the ocean with the sun setting over it make the whole scene pop off the screen, and whenever I watch it I can almost feel myself leaning into the curves of that mountain road. Spirited Away - The scene where Chihiro and her friends are on the train, AKA the first time I ever cried while watching a movie in a theater. The whole thing was crafted brilliantly, from the soft, faded colors of the sea and the bits of land that had escaped the flood to the beautifully melancholy background music. I just sat there with my mouth open and tears blurring my eyes through the whole thing, and yet I never wanted it to be over. NANA - Episode 40: When Hachi spoiler[sees the anti-Nana grafitti under the bridge and immediately gets some spraypaint to cover it up.] I don't think I could ever convey the amount of sheer badass that went into that scene with words. I was so proud of her through the whole thing. In sort of the same vein as above, the scene in episode 23 of Shaman King where...well, where Jun puts her hair up. Again, I would have to go on for a while to fully explain exactly why this scene was so awesome, but basically it's the same as the scene from NANA, where you've got the sweet, likeable, rather spineless character finally standing up for herself and doing something amazing. Yes, this moment of awesome didn't exactly carry through the rest of the series, but I'm a Jun fan so I'll take what I can get wherever it shows up. Finally, the scene in episode 21 of the first season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, where the Major spoiler[goes completely berserk on Gayle after he blows her arm off and tries to crush her head under his arm suit.] This scene always stuck with me because it's just so intense - the first time I watched it I had to pause as soon as it ended and just catch my breath. It channels a very visceral feeling that I'm sure all of us have had at some point, of being hurt by someone and wanting to hurt them back as badly as possible, consequences be damned. The image of the Major, spoiler[standing in the rain and firing Saito's heavy artillery rifle one-handed as steam pours off of the barrel while Gayle, still in his arm suit, begs for mercy] is absolutely unforgettable, and the entire thing is one of my favorite scenes in anime ever, not to mention in this particular anime, which is loaded with memorable scenes. In conjunction with this I'd also like to mention the last five minutes or so of Solid State Society, simply because it was almost as if the entire movie (most of which, aside from the bit with Togusa and his daughter, was fairly 'meh') had existed simply to set it up. I thought it did a really nice job of tying off a lot of the emotional loose ends left over from 2nd GIG, and overall it was just very sweet and touching. And I think that spoiler[the Major decided to come back] in the end. -cough- Last edited by Murasakisuishou on Thu Aug 20, 2009 9:55 pm; edited 1 time in total |

The scene in episode 11 of Ghost in the Shell when spoiler[Togusa is in the hospital's server room and finds that someone was already there and that the words "I thought what I'd do is, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes... or should I." And this was a message left by the laughing man. For me that was such a great moment. The scene really let you get into the mind of the laughing man a bit.] Also later that same episode when spoiler[Togusa try's to sketch the laughing man's true face and when you see his sketch it's just a drawing of the logo.] I just couldn't get over that scene, it's was the perfect way to end the episode.
Another great scene is from Cowboy Bebop episode 5 spoiler[Basically the whole scene from when Spike arrives at the church to when Vicious throws him out the window.] It was just such an amazing scene. I consider it to be one of the greatest scenes in anime. I never get tired of seeing it. Also from episode 8 when spoiler[Roco dies in the gun battle and he asks Spike "...if we had met earlier in life, would we have been friends?" That one was a bit of a teary moment for me. I thought Roco was a great character, but he died in such a great way.] The scene from the final act in 5 cm per Second spoiler[When Takaki and Akari passed by each other and when they turned around a train started to pass by. Then after the train was gone Akari was gone. That just gave such a powerful closure to the movie.] That just shows how great of a director Makoto Shinkai really is, it's such a simple idea but it's delivered so powerfully. Finally, in episode 10 of Mushi-shi when spoiler[They bring the kids up to the top of the mountain and the clouds start to flow out of their mouths. It's looked so cool, it's one of the most memorable scenes in anime (for me at least).] That's all I got for now. I could mention allot more, but I feel like I've posted enough for now, might come back later on though. |
