Ehh, I may only speak for myself, but after getting the whole set of 9 seasons I'm just not planning on moving on this anytime soon.
Funimation hopefully didn't pay much to get it and isn't going to flood stores with copies. I don't think this is going to see a lot of push from fans so soon after finishing the last set.

It's coming out in November. Funi reps at Otakon have already said this release isn't for the casual fan.

I'm glad I held out and didn't buy those awful faux-remastered sets.
Now if Funimation will do us the courtesty of including the original Ocean cast track (excluding the bad music), we'd be set. But I guess Saban has the rights for that.
The decision now becomes, do I get this or hold out for a R1 release of Kai?

Everyone who griped about FUNi's remastered sets better be the first ones to have each Dragon Box on reserve.

I would have been happy to own the Dragon Box sets a couple years ago, but now, with so many DBZ DVDs already on the market, I don't plan on buying another DB DVD until Kai comes out.

The only reason i would by the dragonball boxes is because i'm a stickler for things that match and the widescreen set of dragonball z season sets I already have don't mesh with the full-screen gt and soon to be dragonball season sets that I will eventually get.

Dragonball Z was already remastered for the Japanese release of the Dragon Boxes. I've heard that a fine job was done on them, and I'm terrified of what Funimation might have planned for yet another remaster.
I'm at wits end with Funimation. They got me with the YYH sets (they were coming out in 13-14 episode sets for 30 dollars, and when that run ended, they started to come out with 28-30 episode sets for the same price....double the episodes, for the same price basically) and now they've nailed me with the DBZ sets.
They won't get another cent of my money for anything that isn't Blu-Ray, or that isn't DBZ Kai, even if I have been dying to see the Dragon Box version. I'd rather borrow it from a friend than give in to the evil double dip of doom.
(On second thought, I'm still not sure if I'll buy Kai)
Edit: Reading it again, I wonder if it means that it'll be "produced" (as in subtitles will be added, as will the dub) from the remastered edition that was made for the Japanese release. If I'm correct, then my fears are gone as far as that goes. I hope that is the case.

Why are you mad about the double dip thing? You realize that Funimation is the only one not doing sub-only for half their releases now, right? (except Viz, but Viz is such a small player overall).
The only reason they stay up is because they do as much as they can to maximize their big shows. I am not going to buy every re-release they put out either, but getting this silly attitude about their re-releases that you went out for is just that... silly. There is no purpose in that.

Double Dipping and Triple Dipping isn't a business strategy unless you try to convince people that the new edition is far superior to the old edition (or if you drastically lower the price per episode, but I don't think the Dragon Boxes will be cheap). They tried to do this with the last "widescreen remaster" season sets, and they got a lot of people to buy based on the idea that the sets were the best we'd ever get here in the US. Obviously that was BS, seeing as how the Dragon Boxes have been announced. To say that the two examples I gave are the only two gripes I have with Funimation would be a gross understatement, and I assure you that any "attitude" I've taken toward Funimation is warranted (I've purchased thousands of dollars of stuff from them. If I'm not allowed to have an opinion on how they do things, no one is)
DBZ isn't going to sell forever. I'm worried for Funimation if they are relying on DBZ sales to keep them afloat.

DBZ has been selling well for years now and will continue to sell. These Dragonboxes aren't for the casual viewer.
