I don't get it. Why has Funi failed at this so hard? Crunchyroll and Hulu and stuff do fine, right...?

I'm actually very impressed with the security changes. Just for fun, I experimented to see if I could get direct links to the videos like it was possible to do before the changes. (Note: Just using the "activity" window in Safari), and I am happy to say that everything seems to be secure now
As for why Funimation had issues with this, its not uncommon at all. It's true that Hulu and some other sites have not had this problem, but they are much bigger companies, and likely have more people dedicated to working on the servers. Youtube and metacafe, for instance, are both also streaming websites that thousands of people "hack" to download videos from all the time. It's likely that people had been downloading videos from Funi's website for a very long time, not that I am condoning this behavior. The only problem occurs when some idiot decides to illegally hack (what the one piece hacker did was actually a hack) the website and post the videos on sites before they are supposed to exist. I hope Funi sues that guy to the moon.
Anyway, problem solved.

CR gets ripped too but not too much is reported when that happens. OP made news big time and is still among the missing...

About damn time!
I've been waiting to catch up on Ghost Hunt for a week now, and later tonight I'll end up following up to 32 different shows at once, six of which I started just this past week, all because of that hacker fudge who ruined FUNi's web player for everyone! I hope that guy gets the Mr. Hands treatment after what he did.

Yeah, I was counting on it being there when they brought the Video Portal back.
Why do I have to wait the longest to see one of the episodes that I really want to see them handle? =/ Now I have no clue when they're going to upload it.

I'm glad that they are back. Damn what anyone says, I don't think day and date distribution is something to sabotage a company for offering.
Hopefully they'll catch up the releases and resume the normal schedule for Phantom.

I am extremely happy to see the player back up and running. Unforunately, I fully expect to see more problems in the future. The reality is that while many fansubbers viewed themselves as helping fans and the anime industry (debatable but they did) some see themselves as the ones who should be providing content rather than legitimate companies. People with that mindset will keep looking for ways to make trouble and hurt their "competion."
As long as nothing happens any time soon though I think Funimation can recover from this. It worries me a bit that recent Navarre statements haven't praised them like usual though. (Still, something must be going right for Navarre stock to be up so high. What I wouldn't give to have been able to invest back when I wanted to. Curse not having any real money to work with.)
Best thing anyone can do is promote their video portal, their YouTube and any other legal streams/downloads for people who want to get a free taste of anime. If new fans start getting into anime via these legal means, it makes it possible to turn fandom back to legal means rather than illegal ones.

*If you're referring to the idiots who have "taken" the episodes and put them on Torrents*
The thing is, you know they will... We just have to hope that FUNimation's new security is, in fact, enough to keep them from being successful with it.

They need to upload 10 before Thursday. It's been out for over a week now.

I should say that hopefully no one else does anything stupid. I highly doubt that the idiots who "taken" the videos will be doing anything anytime soon.
