Since there isn't a topic about it, I'll start one.

Historie is a manga written by Hitoshi Iwaaki, the author of Parasyte, that started back in 2004. There are only 4 volumes as of yet, but it's still ongoing.

Its story takes place in ancient Greece and follows the childhood of a boy named Eumenes, who would later in his life become secretary and general to Alexander the Great.

So far, I've read two volumes and it's an extremely intresting and addictive manga. If you're a fan of Parasyte then this will probably appeal to you, even the character designs look similar. Actually, I recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new. Although, if you are going to read, it's quite gory in places, and probably shouldn't be viewed by the faint of heart.

Has anyone read it?

Also, it's being serialized in the Japanese anthology, Afternoon. Does this mean that a chapter is released with every edition of Afternoon, or does Iwaaki release it by the volume?

Here. I've finished volumes 1-4.

We definitely need the reversed My Anime function.

Of course the former.

I have read the first volume. I am really a fan of the author's art style, so I'd have to check this out. Although the setting is different, it should appeal to readers of Parasyte.

Hoping this will get licensed sometime. This title I would definitely pay money for.

I love how this story develops. The art also adds to the feel of the manga great. I have read the first 3 volumes and been hoping that it gets licensed sooner then later.

I was reading the Japanese wiki (using Google translator that is) And ran across this:

2008年1月に第一部の連載が終了した。

The rough (Google) translation of this is, "The serial of part ended in 2008 January"

I'm curious if anyone knows anything about this or can interpret this any better than me.

I can't imagine that the series would already be finished, the the real life Eumenes had a lot of events take place in his life, and I feel as if it's just starting (I'm at volume 3 by the way).

If anyone could clear this up it would be a great help. Here's the link to the page: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ヒストリエ

I dig up this old thread because I've finished reading volume 5. Eumenes is now serving under Philip II of Macedon, but it seems that spoiler[the author has added many comical facial expressions on Eumenes' face (and others) in different occasions, especially during his last revisit to Cardia before leaving for Pella.] It adds some lighthearted moments, but it also makes the story less serious. Not sure if it's a good or bad sign.

It definitely is a lot more light-hearted than its earlier chapters, but it certainly has a long way to go, considering how many things Eumenes did. If anything the latest chapters have indicated that it's about to go back to its more serious roots.

So far, I read only the first two volumes. I'm utterly impressed how creative and imaginative the manga-ka is for taking a minor character from Alexander's reign and basing all those interesting tales around him.

I echo the other's statement: this series needs to get licensed.

I've read all 54 chapters that have been scanlated to date. The series continues to be as utterly fascinating as ever, and I like the lighthearted moments Iwaaki has been content on adding in. They worked for the most part in Parasyte, and certainly fare just as well in Historie.

I'll also echo what's been previously stated: This series NEEDS to be licensed ASAP.

Sometimes it's good to be on the other side of the Pacific.

Picked up the first 3 volumes yesterday and breezed through them.
This is a masterfully crafted story and I dare to say that in terms of plot-construction and character development this might be Iwaaki's best work to date.

The art style is fairly simple and I will be honest that during the bigger panoramic scenes it tends to show in a bad way, but hey, the simple design generally fits the story, and I am just nitpicking.

The plot itself is awesome so far, and I loved the story of Harpagos and the creation of the Persian Empire. It has been so long since I learned anything new from a manga, so Historie caught me by surprise. Will continue reading.

Going to look for it today, seeing as it's only only 1 volume.
