Ya know, I actually enjoyed Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. I wonder what the special will be about.... I'll have to remember to check up on this once in awhile.

Free diving...pierce the seabed with your drill?
Actually, all I keep thinking of is Real Drive, Gainax style.

I remember seeing this on TechTV/G4 years back and I enjoyed it. It had some really interesting moments, but I also remember a lot of people not really liking the ending, but it's about journey sometimes, man!
This is cool news. I really loved the main character's sister, mainly because she looked like Paul McCartney with blue hair.

Maybe an adaptation from a manga also begins with letter G?

It was a pretty cool show, the anime had more story, whlist the manga had more fanservice. I can't say I ever expected this series to ever back though. I think its been either five or six years since I watched this though.

Hopefully, anime gods willing, this will be brought over.
I sort of have diverging opinions from the mainstream on some of Gainax's works. But they are a perfect fit for Abenobashi, it should be great.

The free diving thing could be an anime version of Glaucos.

Well, Abenobashi was a nice series but it feels totally random that they chose to continue that one.

That is what I am thinking as well. Considering the series is seven years old and wasn't extremely popular, this surprizes me as well. If anything, I would think Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann would be getting a OVA.

The thing is, in Abeno-world you can make pretty much everything. So I think that someone at GainaX got a really nice idea about another world Sashi could have created. And they decided that it's awesome enough to create an OVA.
Maybe will see something like "Abenobashi: Gainax shopping arcade", where all heroes from all GainaX anime will live together.

That would be so insanely awesome!!!
Well, it looks like we're not going to get a continuation of Gurren Lagann out of this after all, but a new Abenobashi project is an awesome development, and the new diving story does sound interesting...but there probably won't be any of this:
"Pierce the Ocean Floor with your Drill!!!"

...It's not that odd that they chose Abenobashi, it makes for the most 'free' option to go with, in the sense of how things would actually work.
Still, I hope we'll see this come over here. It was a unique and fun series with a lot of interesting plot behind it. An unexpected gem of quirkiness IMHO.

That would be pretty damn awesome. And I haven't even seen the original Abenobashi -- something I must look into.
@TT: I seem to remember somebody at Gainax describing Gurren Lagann as a ten year brand, so a TTGL OVA/sequel/prequel/movie (oh wait)/whatever project of some kind is almost inevitable, I'd say; if not next year or the year after, then certainly in 2012. Heck, from what I know about Abenobashi, this could be it.

I wonder where they'd go with an Abenobashi sequel. Most of the shopping arcades around Abenobashi have already been torn down...
(I feel a little guilty because I like going to the big commercial buildings erected in their place, but times change.)
