I'm not sure since I haven't read the manga, but I'm going to assume its because he's being portrayed as a "bad" student and stereotyping "bad" student with gangsta talk.

Doesn't Touji speak in the Kansai dialect? If so, then that probably explains it.

Osakan is basically Kansai, which is a rougher, somewhat rowdier form of speech similar in character to our Southern or Brooklyn dialects (not just accent, but word choice, sentence formation, etc.). Go check out the thread on Osakan dialects for a more exact idea of what Kansai is.

Wouldn't this go under the "Manga" topic?

Y'know, you have a really good point there.

That's what I thought at first. But seeing as how the word "dub" was mentioned, I thought it didn't really matter.

And besides, I'd never read the manga anyway. For some odd reason though, at the time, I also was thinking the answer was what Nagisa-sama mentioned about the Kansai] dialect. I at least remember that much from watching the series (not that I knew what the accent was called, but that it seemed different.)

Anyway, enough of my rambling, I think I'll go to the 'Osaka accent' thread now.
