Rin-ne?

This is why I dont like translations sometimes... They should just use the original Japanese name...

Oh c'mon. Yes, the dash is a little unnecessary but at least it's not called "Super Happy Fun Time Ghost's and Girls!". It's certainly no reason to raise an anti-english translation flag just yet.

I'm glad that they are doing a double release and making scanlations of this series pretty much pointless. Simultaneous releases are the way it should be done.

I agree with you. At least the title is almost a direct translation and not something completely diffrent. I am just glad Rumiko Takahashi hasn't retired yet and that Viz Media is still licensing her work. There is too much manga licensed that has been done over and over againalready (come on Tokyo Pop, Maid Sama?

In japanese, an extra n consonant added in front of a n-syllable usually means it lengthens the pronounciation, which means it's pronounced "Rin ne", rather then Renee or Rine [like Wine]. This isn't fandom blathering ["I watch lots of anime so I know japanese!"], but actual experience from Japanese Class at a university talking. It might look odd, but it means fans are more likely to pronounce it right when reading it out loud, which is a plus.

Anyhoo , in regards to the news-

Anyone who complains about a free [while Japan still has to pay], simultaenous, professional, licensed, authorized, with full involvement of the artist release of one of the greatest manga authors of all time's new series is made of fail and should just leave fandom RIGHT NOW.

THIS IS NOTHING BUT FANTASTIC NEWS THAT MAKES ALL ELSE PALE IN COMPARISON. I wish I was exagerating, but seriously, VIZ is taking us out to a nice meal and treating us right, so we should treat them nice too.

Seriously people.

Viz is really on fire about this series. I think they're seeing that there is an opportunity to try and get readers here with this new series by letting people preview, and then if they're getting all this great reading material, then they'll buy the manga so that they don't have to go onto the computer to read the stuff. Also, they're probably trying to get away from Inuyasha, I think.

Yeah, though I'd be surprised if they kept it all online- it'd make more sense to take chapters down as print editions come out, considering that at 16 or more pages a week, there's going to be a whack of content online pretty quickly.

I imagine they'll keep putting out InuYasha as usual, though I hope if this is a hit, it spurs them to release it a bit quicker, and maybe go back and do a new edition of Urusei Yatsura. The VIZBIG edition of InuYasha [which makes sense to do despite it still having volumes left -it's a long, long series, and it's probably better to issue this then reprint older volumes] is coming out soon, so I'm curious if we'll see a new edition of Ranma like that as well.

It's a wave Rumiko all over again Smile

I'm really excited about the series. Even if Inuyasha has disappointed me I still think she can make a great series as long as it doesn't go on for too long.

Considering Rumiko nature of said manga series by her, I'll probably look into it considering that it is available through VIZ. I still can't believe that VIZ is this attached to the series. I don't see a lot of series where they debut the manga the same day in the US online that they debut it in print in Japan, I just don't.

InuYasha debuted in the US pretty quickly too, starting in 1996 shortly after its japanese debut, though its release here was a bit slower since VIZ was only releasing 2 chapters/month in comic format, while Japan was getting 4 chapters/month, which is part of why it's a good bit behind the japanese version now.

On a smart move, they have links to their online store, where you can get her assorted manga and some harder to find stuff like the Maison Ikkoku anime boxsets they produced.

Given VIZ started as a Shogakukan subsidiary [and still is, just with the addition of Shuiesha as a partner] , them licensing Rumiko Takahashi's work is pretty much a given manga-wise.

37 versus 56? Yes, that is quite a ways to go. Will it end up being the same way with Rin-ne that it has been with Inuyasha? Providing the fact that they are planning on releasing the newest chapter every week, the same time as the Japanese chapters get serialized, on top of tankobon, then hopefully no. Hopefully the situation can be different and the manga volumes will be up to date without issues whatsoever. And with VIZ doing this, maybe, just maybe, there can be a decrease in the amount of scans made for this manga.

You can't say that this is a bad thing, I hope I can view it while being out of the US.

I'm not a Rumiko fan but I'll give her another shot Smile

well this is excellent news. I'm glad that people finally catching on to what fans want. I would even pay for the service if they asked me too. I think the realize that people will still buy the completed volumes.

now I just hope I like it. and I hope I like the translation (because i don't like the Inuyahsa translation)
and i won't read it if I don't like it. but i won't read fan scanlations if there are legit ones out there. so i just have to cross my fingers.

and for the people who think they shouldn't have shortened the title to just Rin-ne remember that the full title of Inuyasha is Sengoku o Togi Zoushi Inuyasha. it isn't a big deal thy do it all the time. the Japanese will probably call it Rin-ne as well.

A VIZBIG edition of Inuyasha is coming out? Fantastic, I think I'll start collecting that series again...though only under the following conditions:

- The series is finally released unflipped
- They fix their translation and make it consistent (early volumes translated attack names differently than later volumes that mimicked the translations of the anime)

EDIT: Now with fixed quote
