Damn, had I been given some more lead time on this, I could have planned to get up to NYC on Wednesday. Oh well.

I hope this new album is still kinda wacky like Exodus. Either way I'm sure it'll be great. Here's hoping for a small tour! Texas please!

Why do they always do this in the middle of the week when the majority of us work?? I could make NYC if it was on the weekend... *grumblegrumble*

She's not really an anime singer. She's done a few but she's one of the biggest pop stars in japan so her audience goes beyond just anime fans.
Sadly though I'm not going to be able to make it to the NYC appearance.

isn't her fly me to the moon remix older than 2007? I heard that song for the first time in 2005, so there's no way that could be right.
Anyway, unfortunately I don't live in NY and some of us have classes they must attend and jobs they must work, so I won't be seeing her. I do wish her album was being released the same time as the digital release here. Especially for those who are going to see her, it would have been nice if those people were given the chance to get their cd's signed or something.

The album is going to surpise you if you didn't like Exodus for whatever reason -- it's excellent.
I don't see any logic in people thinking that her Japanese work differs from her English work, other than the obvious language differences. Of course it'll sound different.
To Maaya: Her English lyrics don't have anything special!?
Have you heard Kremlin Dusk?
When you hear a Utada song in Japanese and in English do you suddenly think that they're two different artists singing the songs?
I hope not.
My only gripe about the album is that it's only 10 tracks long (12 if you count the lame remixes of CBTM).
The album is worth buying for these tracks alone IMO
1. Me Muero
2. On and On
3. Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence
4. This One
For those who prefer a more 'Japanese' Utada, This is the One might satisfy you, at least in the area concerning the sound. But it's no Heart Station mind you.

you know she speaks fluent english, right? if you don't like it, it's likely because you're coming to the sad reality that Jpop is the same stuff we hear every day, only in Japanese.

That was true a decade ago. With Jacon ending after this year and more and more cons coming to South Florida I'm not so sure.

Ha ha she was born in NY too you know.
Oh and Heartstation wasn't even that good compared to her other stuff. Prisoner of Love, Heartstation, Beautiful World and Fight The Blues were the best songs on it. Beautiful World gets 6 points taken away too because it seemed to be about Shini Ikari.

The sound is completely different. Songs like "colors", "passion", "beautiful world", "traveling", "distance", "final distance", "sakura drops" ... it's a different music genre from the songs on "this is the one". I think she or her producer tried to appeal to this different market (where they don't listen to J-Pop ) ... unfortunately that's not my type of music

Nope, I'll try it... but I'm not sure it can make up for "You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japaneesy" ... Oo;;

No, but I don't understand why she isn't able to create english songs as good as her japanese ones But of course, that's just my personal taste.

That's not it. I understand the Japanese lyrics and I think they're a lot "deeper" and more complex than her english ones (compare the english and japanese versions of hikari). Those I feel, are quite repetitive and like I said, nothing special ^^;; (for example, as a comparison, Rie Fu has some pretty english lyrics in some of her songs ("life is like a boat") or Yuki Kajiura (vanity, to nowhere, key of the twilight etc.), imho) I admit I listened to them only once, so if there's any song on this album you consider having "good lyrics", please tell me =)
Well, I still hope she'll be successful in the US ... but at least I'll stick to her japanese works for now.

She re-released it when the Eva movie came out.
