Call me a fanboy, but while I find this amusing, I'm also kinda depressed that it seems sometimes like Hideaki Anno and Takashi Murakami are the only two people in Japan who take Evangelion seriously. |
What's next...
You know, you really can't get much lower than this.

I doubt it... Evangelion is originally and always will be for males because of, 1.) mecha, 2.)loli (i.e Asuka, Rei), and alot of the males in Japan that watch evangelion are either otakus or hikimori's or neets, so females in Japan aren't really into those types of guys plain and simple! so its obvious that they would market to it males! Oh, and with most of the anime market in Japan, its usually (if not all the time) targeted towards males ...so i doubt it will ever get the female treatment... simply because females aren't into anime as much as males are in Japan. |
They already gave us Eva dresses, why not some undies to go with 'em.

is much more accurately translated as "I mustn't run away!" when you consider the context it was used from within the show.
"No escape!" has the totally wrong connotation. |
The slogan they should use is "I mustn't get the runs!"

At first I thought they would be for girls because of the dresses. But no luck... no cute pen pen girls underwear
And Evangelion isn't Haruhi Suzumiya where all otaku know it but the general public wouldn't know it at all. Evangelion is something recognizable. People may say it's an otaku show but they know when they see Rei (who is not a loli she's 14 and she looks it...)

Released? Wait, this time I really don't want to know.
I suppose if this type of item sells then its worth it. At least the designs aren't as creepy as I initally thought they would be. (Anyone remember the very creepy Asuka and Rei cat figures Rob reviewed a while back? Case and point there).

As mentioned earlier in the thread, it's a matter of context. "No escape" is a figurative translation; the literal meaning of the words is closer to "I mustn't run away".

Oh God.
I have to admit, though, the idea of being able to scratch my ass with Shinji's catch phrase does hold some inherent value.

And I thought wearing cartoon underwear ended at 5 year olds. Anyone remember those Transformer briefs?

And here we have the anime fandom apocalypse. When female teenage characters that look like teenage characters get described as lolis, you know the downward spiral of labelling everything as GAR, moe or loli has gone too far. Way, way too far. |
No it hasen't! Moe is extreamly popular in Japan, and besides Evangelion has some of the most earliest moe scenes in anime history! Moe has been around for a long time, its not like its a new thing... hell even some people in Japan say moe to say something is cute, and including the regular people that don't watch anime! |
Nice. You called them lolis, I pointed out they're not, then went on to generalize the current state of anime fandom, and you brought my generalization back and improperly applied it to a specific series, as well as going completely off-topic on a separate word, meanwhile ignoring my actual point of your misuse of the word loli. Good job.

OK, guys, let's drop the moe/loli debate before this heats up and gets the thread locked.
Get back to the topic at hand: underwear.

Hehe, sorry about that.
As for the underwear, there's not a lot to say. I may be a closet otaku, but this is something even I wouldn't buy, let alone wear... it screams "obsession" just a little too loudly for my tastes. And if they actually had pictures of any of the characters on them, that'd only make it worse. x.x
Oh well.
