Some person 東風屋志郎 is credited by various sources (that look like decent quality to me) for various staff jobs. Amongst these are:But none of these sources have any Roumaji or even Hiragana for that name, and I don't see any plausible reading for it (i. e., EDICT can't reasonably split that name in two parts). Japanese Wikipedia mentions 東風屋志郎 for Po-po-tan but has no page for that person.

Does anybody have an idea how to romanize this name in order to check whether this person already is in the ANN database? (Trying to enter him/her with the Kanji name was not successful, and so far none of the animes mentioned above has data at ANN of sufficient quality to identify him/her given the Kanji credits; I'm currently in the process of changing this for Silent Möbius though.)

----------------------------------------

Ah, and while where at it: I tried to search ANN for "東風" but got no result. Then again, there is a person in the database named Takahiro KOCHI (東風 孝広); shouldn't he have been found? Searching for "東風 孝広" produces this person as the only hit...

I tried looking at this name myself and got the exact same results that you have gotten so far, such as this page which mentions him for episode six of Popotan. He is not in the encyclopedia at all, but I can tell you that he was credited for artwork. By reading the kanji though, his given name is Shiro (志郎), while I am trying to figure out his family name, or 東風屋. I have this suspicion that his name is probably not pronouced in the literal reading sense, and has a totally different pronunciation. Perhaps my grandmother may know, I will ask her if she can read it.

The family name should be Kochiya, as this family actually exists (but with one different kanji 東風谷), and at least one animation staff has this family name (incidentally, her name was incorrectly romanized as "Hiroko Tōfūya," according to the DVD credit of Magical Girl Pretty Sammy). A fictional character in the 10th game (Tōhō Fūjinroku ~ Mountain of Faith) of the famous Tōhō Project series is named Sanae Kochiya (東風谷 早苗).

東風志郎 probably changed the third kanji on purpose.

志郎 is Shirō for sure.

Thus Shirō Kochiya would be the most reasonable romanization by far. HOWEVER, I couldn't and wouldn't guarantee its validity.

KOCHIYA Shirou created; this thread specified as source for his Kanji.

You should have used Shirō instead of Shirou (shrug).

I'm aware that Shirō might be slightly less ambiguous; then again, IIRC this kind of romanization is hardly ever used at ANN, thus I chose Shirou (at least not Shiro... Wink). Any general rule for this? What about the ANN search engine handling those special characters?

There was a time when ANN's search engine couldn't handle letters with macrons properly, but that issue had been solved. All new names and titles should use macrons for long vowels unless specified otherwise.

Okay. If renaming that person were an option technically available to a contributor I'd do it myself now... if you want to rename that person, feel free to do it.

It is impossible to RENAME a person, and that's why I want people to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when creating new names.

Since there's no solid proof of the romanization of his name, I'd just leave it there for the time being, for I don't want to create another possibly erroneous entry.

Okay, then let's be extremely careful:
Code:

Shimodera?   Satoshi   下寺      聡
Osawa      Kazuhiro   大澤      和宏
Fukuda      Kengo   福田      憲悟
Fukuhara      Keiji      福原      恵次
Toyohara      Masaaki   豊原      正明
Kato         Shinjiro   加藤      清司郎
Shinko      Taichi   新子      太一
Yoshikawa   Yoshio   吉川      よしお
Shinya      Yukio   信也      由貴男
Hanamizushiro   Yuusuke   花水城   勇輔

These are taken from credits of the Binbou Shimai Monogatari original videos. Each of them is credited for 原画 (key animation) in one or two episodes. Romanizations are mine (i. e. EDICT); these persons are not in the ANN database (neither Kanji nor Roumaji produced a match, I handled all other Key Animators of this series already; the others were easy to find, and I added the Kanji for all Roumaji matches).

How should I proceed now? Enter them with the given Roumaji? Wait for your approval?
