Except for Viz put them up there in the first place. There just trying to rack up the cash from crunchy roll.

Except Hulu and Joost both pay them too. (Actually I believe CR licensed from TV Tokyo, not Viz.) This is likely due to some minor legal nitty-gritty that will hopefully be smoothed over soon.

I wonder why they decided to take them down. Perhaps they weren't making as much cash as they wanted. Ah well, I didn't really watch those shows anyway, so it's no skin off my back.

I'm taking a guess that this is in response to a number of unofficial sites embedding the videos with out permission?

If I'm reading it correctly, all this means is that sites like ANN (who embed Joost shows so viewers can watching here instead of there) currently cannot embed the VIZ shows. It does not mean they were taken off of Hulu or Joost. The article also states that the issue should be resolved soon.

Sounds like a non-issue to me.

It's the start of the crackdown! They are making sure that whoever is current streaming the videos are the correct ones to be doing so, and then cracking down on all other sites that are hosting streaming fansubs - several of them have already been stopped from streaming their videos, the rest will follow suit in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Once only the legal sites are streaming the videos, then the embedded streaming block will be lifted, as long as other tags are added to the embedded streams, and the streams themselves identify who is viewing them. That might take everyone EXCEPT CR tons of time to implement, since CR already has that embedded and can instantly disable any accounts that try to use their videos wrongly.

So for all your griping, be happy, this is what the industry wants - proper control over the streaming of the videos. Once that is in place, you can watch your videos all you want. In the meantime, join CR and the other sites for legal viewing of the shows.

Well sure but they're not going to come out and say "this is a huge problem and it could take ages to resolve". That would be just stupid. It's just smart to say it's not big deal and will be resolved soon. It's certainly possible that it is as they say and is only a minor issue. You can see where it is concerning though since we don't really know what the problem is. It could be something more major.

It's a non-issue because you just have to punch a few letters into the Firefox address bar to get to Joost. That's what people are saying. I do understand, however, if you don't want to go to Hulu, what with that creepy-as-hell commercial they're running with Alec Baldwin...

why give embed codes if you don't want people to post it on other sites?

Unfortunately there's way too much fansubs groups and way too much sites like veoh.com and myspace.com videos that still allows fansubs and dubs of those series (excluding Naruto Shippuden). Sure Viz media has stopped people from embedding the video on illegal sites,

BUT unless both the US & Japan TV comissions stops fansubbing and get even tougher on servers that hosts illegal streaming sites & video sites like [b]veoh.com megavideo.com and myspace.com videos,[/color] it's a losing battle that may not be won withough pissing off a lot of hardcore anime fans.

The news isn't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought. Basically, you can only watch the shows by going to the legit sites that host it.

Thats fair. Alot of these small anime streaming sites are littered with pirated content, malware and gangloads of ads and non of the revenue goes to the creators of the content at all.

I think the key thing is this:

These are hardcore "fans" who don't support legal streams and refuse to ever purchase anime on the basis that I can steal it for free and not get caught so rofl, lmao and lulz @ the idea of me ever supporting the people who make anime.

If you piss these people off, what does it matter? Its not like you're losing their support. You never had it from the get go.

Also, someone said something about the video quality. Again, I'd like to ask that person if you have a DVD of any show thats on Hulu, do a comparison between the 480p stream, your DVD and a standard .avi SD fansub and see if the video quality is really low quality.

Naruto on Hulu looks identical to the DVD version (i've checked it on episodes that I have boxsets for and it doesn't look any different) and better than a SD fansub and the 720p stream on Crunchyroll is significantly better in video quality than my DVDs.

All streaming isn't low quality youtube stuff. The tech and bandwidth is advancing to where streaming DVD quality video can be done on your typical broadband connection. I have the cheapest plan offered by my ISP and theres no issues.
