Viz Media Disables Embeded Videos from Hulu, Joost
posted on by Justin Sevakis
Viz Media has requested that the streaming video websites hulu.com and Joost remove the ability for viewers to embed their videos into other websites. The affected videos include all episodes of Naruto, Naruto Shippūden, Bleach, and Death Note.
Viz Media's Senior Director of Public Relations, Evelyn Dubocq, told Anime News Network that the suspension was temporary, although she could not yet estimate a date where the service would be reinstated. "We had to suspend embedding at this time in order to look into some issues and concerns that had recently surfaced."
Joost informed ANN that the feature is being disabled tonight. The hulu.com site did not respond to ANN's request for comment before press time.
The move directly affects the ability of Anime News Network and other websites to make the series available via embedded videos. All four series are still viewable directly on hulu.com and Joost.com within North America. Crunchyroll.com also streams Naruto Shippūden, but never offered embeds of the show.
It is not known how this move will affect Viz's own Naruto.com website, which itself uses embedded videos streamed from hulu.com.
