Chrono Crusade again? ADV sure does some weird things.
I am somewhat curious what all is included in the Clannad DVD collection, it looks like it's a half season worth.. and it's sub only.
Ugh... honestly I'm questioning whether I'm willing to buy that. I really do not like that. Clannad deserves a dub every bit as much as Kanon did. That doesn't make me happy at all. I'd have preferred to wait a couple of years and seen it done properly than to see a sub-only release for the same price as Funimation's dubbed half-season sets. This is why I've never thought ADV is all that great.
Sure, they can say "if it does well we may do a dub" but how can it do well when you hamper it up front? How many want to buy the same series twice? (I actually would do this for Clannad, but not with ADV at the helm the way they are now).
I seriously doubt that Clannad's sales wouldn't beat that of many Funimation half season sets. That's incredibly disappointing.
I may actually do what I've talked about in the past in this case and buy R2 dvds import (even though they don't have subs) just to support the creators because I have no interest in supporting sub-only R1.
Actually scratch that... I'm a strong enough supporter of Clannad I'll do this. If ADV guarantees a dub the same way Bandai did for their sub only release I'll buy both, even though I strongly dislike ADV and think they may not come through. Clannad is important enough to me to do that.
Just some basic stats here,
Clannad has 1524 ratings, Kanon has 1733, and Jyu Oh Sei (released by Funimation on a dubbed half season set) 483.
The ratings for Clannad and Kanon are comparable and Jyu Oh Sei is much lower. I don't have sales figures but I am really doubting the sales potential for the last of these has more than Clannad. Clannad has a Bayesian rating of 38 which is pretty impressive. I can't believe I'm talking about an anime in the top 100 in 2 different rating scales as being done sub only with no dub announcement.
Emma & Aria are both sub only by Nozomi, but both have comparable ratings figures (in terms of quality and amount of votes) and receive very little attention on other sites. This is a problem neither Kanon or Clannad have. They both received a fairly substantial amount of interest.

I think it has more to do with the fact that ADV is dying than anything. We're lucky to get anything at this point. Still a bit disappointing though, don't get me wrong.
Also, every time I see Kiba, I think it says Kaiba, and am disappointed.

Did anybody else notice that ADV is releasing a Blu-ray title? Have they released one before?
I'm sure everybody knows what show they're itching to release on Blu-ray, if they can.

The anime that deserves dubs, like Clannad should still be dub. The other less known series can be subs since not many people know or want those series.
I don't have anything against subs but one of the reasons I buy dubs is because I like to watch anime with people and it is easier to get someone to watch a series if it is dub.

As I noted in the news thread regarding the Clannad release, ADV knows how many copies of Kanon and Air they sold, they also know the cost of dubbing the series, they also can not afford to lose money at this time.
With no chance of an English television broadcast, what would the point be to losing money on dubbing a title? Sure it limits appeal, but they had two other Key adaptations that based on how they treated this, they lost money on.
I loved Kanon and Air, thought both had great dubs, but I do not suffer under any illusions that either of the titles made money, and would be the anime series that makes visual novel adaptations breakout American anime hits.
Chrono Crusade is interesting for them finally cutting the price on it, MSRP of $49 is a lot better than MSRP of $89.

Like I keep telling you, we have no way of knowing, although I can't say I don't have the same question myself. Shows like Yumeria, Yugo, Wandaba, CC, Gravion, DD, and Yucie have all had collections in recent years. Meanwhile older titles like Steel Angel Kurumi, Devil Lady, Orphen, Arc the Lad, Princess Nine, Gasaraki, Generator Gawl, and Dai-Guard languish in OOP-land and have their collections fetching handsome prices on the used market. We can assume they'll be re-released sooner or later, although it's anybody's guess whether it will be in April, August, November, or any other month of 2009.
I wish the Clannad release had a dub just as much as anybody, but let's keep that discussion to Talkback, okay?

Sin? Why are they bringing that back?
If they get CCS they'll be fine. Or Sailor Stars for that matter. If they want to release subbed only sets get oldies like Digimon, Pokemon, Yugioh. (they probably can't get Pokemon but i'll throw it out there)
Is Five Star Stories any good? I remember it being plastered all over Newtype but I don't remembering seeing a review.

Glad I already have Princess 9, Devil Lady, and Steel Angel Kurumi boxsets. Can you believe Devil Lady was actually $9.99 for a long time off bestbuy's website which is where I snagged my copy?
ADV needs to seriously stop re-printing dvds that are readily available from retailers everywhere.

I really liked it, but it's a first episode for a series that didn't happen, so it kind of goes nowhere and sets up a story that isn't around. If I'm remembering right.

I'm super disappointed to see nothing actually -new-, but, then again, with the crap they're pulling on Clannad perhaps it's a good thing...Sigh. R.I.P., ADV.

I'm the same. If only, right? But Kaiba is a title that only Pioneer/Geneon would pick up, but they're not here anymore
Anyway, I'm thrilled that ADV will be releasing Clannad in two box sets instead of singles.
I'll support such a great move 100% by buying both sets. Also, to those of who don't want to just because there is no dub, remember that if Clannad doesn't sell well then we might not get to see After Story over here in the States, which would be tragic.
So unless ya absolutely refuse to watch a sub anime, if you are a Clannad fan, please support it and ADV.

Hello Kitty!? HELL YEAH!!!
No, seriously, I'll be buying Clannad. I agree with Megiddo. To not support that series due to no dub is a serious oversight. The series deserves its respect

I'll support it if and when they advise they plan to make a dub later on to correct this because they said they were going to make one in the beginning.
I'm sorry but I don't see a reason to be loyal to ADV when they don't do what they say they are going to do and aren't loyal to dub fans. I agree with supporting the series, but I can do that by getting even a single volume of the R2 release.
If they will put out an official statement saying they'll fix this at some point later I'll accept their word for it and buy the sub-only release to help them out.
