by reviews I mean professional and enthusiast
Every time a new or movie comes out I immediately check review websites to see what whether or not I should buy or watch early, but I don't have this opinion for anime. Sure the many review site for anime but non of them influence what I watch or how I feel about a certain anime. Despite the reviews I thought eiken was decent anime and Neon Genesis Evangelion and despite being one of my most enjoyable watches of the year code geass r2 was overrated. I'm not argue against reviews but I wonder how much effect they have on people. |

Not really. I don;t rally care for a review of any nature. This is because different people have different tastes. Just because they thought an anime was good, doesn't me I will. Some times I'll enjoy reading reviews just to see things from another perspective, but in the end I decide what I want to watch.

Not really. I mean, I disagree with a lot of reviews of anime series and movies reviewed on this very website. I do like to read critiques of anime I plan to watch, but I like to experience it for myself.
What I mean is, let's say I hear about a series. I read a synopsis of the series. I gain interest, so to get more information, I'll look up reviews for said series, both professional reviews, and amateur reviews. Some reviews give a high score, others give it a low score, but I'm still intrigued. Finally, I watch the series in question, and I end up loving it more than all of the reviewers did. Or maybe I won't like it that much. You can't expect anyone to like and dislike the exact same franchises you do. There is one exception to where I will follow critiques; if every single review for an anime says it sucks, chances are, it really sucks. It's like that with any medium, really; any movie or video game that is universally reviled tends to lack quality. I know this, for I have found out the hard way. On the other hand, the opposite isn't always true. If an anime has nothing but straight 10 out of 10's from every reviewer imaginable, I may not enjoy it that much, myself. Or maybe I will enjoy it, I won't know until I find out. Reviews can be helpful, they can give you information for an anime you're curious about, but you must remember, since they are someone else's opinion, you must take them with a grain of salt. Like the saying goes, your mileage may vary. |

I'll check review more often than not before buying a new series. What's important though is that the reviewer has a link to past reviews so I can get a feel for what their taste is. I'll check their reviews of series' I've already watched to see if their opinion of it is close to my own. Although it could work in reverse too, if a reviewer says something like "Air is almost as bad as Kanon was." if I liked Kanon, chances are I'll like Air if the reviewer disliked both.

No Offense to ANN or anyone but I don't care for any reviews.Everyone is different in the anime they like.A reviewer may not like a show that you would love cough... Shuffle...cough( I'm talkin to you Theron Martin). so what I do is go to the website and see if they offer the first episode for free,as Funimation usually does.Review it your self.

Yes, if a reviewer compares Show XY to Show ZW, and I hate show ZW, I wouldn't buy show XY.

I love reviews! I am always interested in what people think of something, especially if it is different from my perception. I wonder what they saw that I did not or vice versa. Reviews have often made me take a second look at something I dismissed or reevaluate the quality of what I enjoyed. It does not change the fact that i enjoyed it or how much but it does give me insight into why someone else would not enjoy it and how it could have been improved or why it is more popular and better than I thought.
An example would be Rozen Maiden. I love the show and its sequels but my friends give a big yawn when they see it. As much as I disagree with some of the reviews on this site it gave me some insight into why my friends go nuts over Code Geass and yawn at Rozen Maiden. When seeking out reviews I always make sure to get at least one person who shares my tastes and one person who doesn't. I discovered some of my favorite shows because a reviewer even if they didn't like the show said something interesting about it. I love diversity and debate. So I love reviews, good and bad. Reviews let me see things I like and hate from another perspective. Which is why I will spend a lot of time reading lots of reviews of something that I loved or hated. It is amazing how much you can learn that way. |

I think my answer is no. I take into consideration what reviews have to say, but I won't know whether I like something until I try it for myself. What actually influences me is the story synopsis, not peoples' opinions. I may hear a lot of people rave about a show, but the story might not interest me in the least. I do tend to find that reviews are correct in their observations, though, but the negative side of reviews may not bother me as much as it did the reviewer.

I'll check a review if I see it, but no, i don't care what they say really. This is because I often find myself disagreeing with the reviews, especially cause ANN often finds the dubs and subs bad. If I looked at reviews for everything, I wouldn't be watching anything. The only thing I look at reviews for is games really. That's more dependable because they are able to tell you how the controls are, how the gameplay is, etc.

Yes, reviews are a good source of new anime suggestions. Provided that the reviewer's taste is made clear (so I can judge whether I would agree with them or just the opposite), and they explain why they think some aspect of an anime is good or bad.

No, not really. I'll check out a review every once in a great while, just to get a feel for what a particular show is about, but other than that, I don't really give them much consideration at all. Everyone is going to have different tastes and interests and just because a few reviewers loved or hated a show, doesn't mean that I'm going to love or hate it. I'll watch it myself and then make a judgment.

Yes. Before watching any series, I almost always read a few reviews about that anime first. Reviews are usually my first chance to gather information about a series before I commit the money or the time that it takes to watch the entire series. Reviews are also useful because it is often impossible to review everything yourself. Time and money are limited resources.
I also believe that it more important to be influenced by what is said in the review and by just the final grade. By doing this, you can learn much more about a review. I have even watched series that have received poor remarks if I disagree with the reasoning. That being said, I do sometimes completely disregard reviews when I get recommendations from friends or other fans. All reviews are also not created equal. Some are quite insightful while others are rants. Some reviews are purely subjective while others strive for an objective viewpoint. Reviews can only serve as a guide. They can be wrong for many reasons, such as differences in personal preferences, overly emotionally charged tones or poorly done for a number of other reasons. Additionally, how good a review is often depends heavily on the person evaluating it. I find that it is best to find a few reviewers that share your views and stick with them. Even then, I occasionally disagree even my favorite reviewers. Heck, no one is perfect. Despite these limitations, I still believe that much value can be gained from reading a review. It may be unlikely that you will agree with everything that is said. However, as long as a review can give you a better idea about if you are going to like a series or at the very least provide more information about the show, I believe a review has done its job. |

A review would only change my mind if something I was already interested in got an extremely negative review. I suppose a very positive review might encourage me to check out something I previously hadn't planned on getting but then that's somewhat less likely. Really though, I find that reviews of a decent quality are pretty hard to find. ANN is one of the few places that has em and even then they tend to be rather unpredictable in what gets reviewed and when. Between both of these factors, I would say I am rarely influenced by reviews.

You do realize that Carlos and Bamboo both also had unkind grades for Shuffle, right? Anyway, when it comes to theatrical movies I almost never go to a movie without reading the reviews on it first, and it's not unusual for me to hold off on seeing a movie I was iffy about because of poor reviews. It's been my experience over the years that I rarely substantially disagree with critics when a majority have a low opinion of a movie. (In fact, in the last decade I can probably count the number of times that's happened on one hand.) With TV shows, good reviews are more likely to encourage me to see something. With anime?
