I just noticed that PR Newswire had released the following details from Spike TV on Dec. 17:

****

AFRO SAMURAI: RESURRECTION (HD: TV-MALV)

Two-Hour Movie Premiere Sunday, January 25 (10:00 PM - Midnight, ET/PT); Encore airings of the movie will air in four half-hour installments beginning Friday, January 30 (1:30 - 2:00 AM, ET/PT).

Samuel L. Jackson returns in "Afro Samurai: Resurrection," a two-hour all new original movie sequel to Spike TV's critically-acclaimed, funktastic animated series with music provided by The RZA. When his father's body is stolen from its grave, Afro is forced to pick up his sword and wreak bloody vengeance against an army of deadly foes led by Sio, a beautiful and sadistic mastermind played by Lucy Liu.

Nice that they spelled Lucy's last name correctly, unlike Funimation's trailer.

Also, they'll be rerunning season 1 as a marathon::

AFRO SAMURAI - SEASON 1 (TV-MALV)

Telecasts Sunday, January 25 (Midnight - 2:30 AM, ET/PT).

See how "Afro Samurai" all began with a special encore of season 1.

"Afro Samurai" is the tale of a black samurai set in a futuristic, yet fedual Japan who is on a mission to avenge the wrongful death of his father. Samuel L. Jackson stars in the title role of Afro, a mysterious warrior who travels a solitary path encountering a myriad of enemies, friends and challenges beyond imagination. The cast also includes Ron Perlman as Justice, a lightning quick gun fighter, responsible for the death of Afro's father and Kelly Hu as Okiku, a seductively beautiful girl who is an expert in the healing arts. Revolutionary rap artist and producer The RZA provides an original hip-hop soundtrack.

Cool. I've never seen this one before, so it's nice that they're re-airing it. 1 million dollars per episode has to count for something, right? Laughing

FUNimation has a history of not being able to spell names right. Heck, they couldn't even spell their own owner's name right on one DVD.

Don't forget "Akira Kurasawa" on some of the Samurai 7 DVDs.

Any reason this news hasn't made the main page yet?

I wouldn't expect Spike to air an anime movie; they are known for their jock-like audience (they even poke fun at Japan on MXC). Next thing you know Comedy Central will start airing Bobobo.

Maybe not, but of course they aired season one of Afro Samurai almost two years ago now.

Well, Afro Samurai is a pretty "manly" anime that a lot of jock types would like, (lots of violence and sex, along with an overall good story, great animation and music) and Samuel L. Jackson (who is of course a bada**) does the voice for the main character. Plus, I bet you many of the viewers of it on Spike don't even realize that this is an anime, they just think it is some American made mature cartoon, and Spike's promotion of the show on the channel doesn't call it an anime. Personally, i'm not surprised at all by its success on Spike.

Also, MXC is awesome.

Huh, ANN still hasn't posted this news on the front page, despite all of the other Funimation-related items ....

Thanks for the heads up, I wondered if Spike would ever air more anime...It figures they'd get more Afro. While I really didn't like Afro Samurai much at all, I am sure I will tune in and catch more anyway.

Afro Samurai... I didn't expect much going in, and didn't take much after watching it. However, I won't waste the opportunity to see the movie, it'll be interesting, and could be entertaining.
