I was just wondering...what is the general consensus on how people behave on these forums? It's like this at |Crunchyroll too...people talk down to eachother, are very hostile for no reason and get mad about small things. The messages are negative, the communication is pointlessly agressive and it almost always develops into some kind of bickering.
I know that me just posting this will have a few reponses of people telling me to "suck it up" or whatever arguably pointless and creul comments you can come up with, and I ask that those people do NOT respond. I'm just asking - what does everyone else feel about this? Am I the only person who thinks people need to stop looking for an argument and just enjoy talking about our common interest - anime? Why is there such a large contour of hostile, angry, immature communication? Is it just me? - neon |

Ah, trolls are everywhere, unfortunately. They're especially attracted to larger forums like ANN.
But there are several active moderators and admins here, so there isn't much arguing and agression here at all. That's one of the things I like about this site, a well-moderated forum

That's true. ANN is significantly better than some other forums (which I have refused to visit because of such reasons).
Even the some of the mods are aggressive, too. Very overbearing of their opinions...at least in my experience. - neon |

People here seem to be fairly civil...unless you hit a red button (OMG MOE IS NOT A WASTE OF TIME OR GARBAGE STOP ATTACKING MY FAVORITE GENRE), but usually justice is dealt swiftly if things go TOO far.

Hmm, I'd say some of them come across as a bit grumpy, yes, but I wouldn't call them aggressive. Maybe they just got up on the worng side of the bed that morning. |

Trust me, I've seen forums far worse where the users are all very hostile to those who actually have an opinion, and the mods are jackasses and abuse their power. This is one of the few forums I haven't left within the first week or two because the people there were a bunch of incredibly rude asshats.

Yes, you're all quite right...perhaps I'm just being too sensitive? I leave forums immediately as well, so I certainly understand what you mean. ANN is also one of the only forums I find myself returning too because it's considerably more civil than other ones, where enthusiasts bash other enthusiasts because of their...enthusiasm. Guys, Zac only deals with things so harshly because he has to put up with a lot of BS, plus he's one of the editors so he probably has a busy day-to-day schedule and has to put up with that as well. But I think Zac is cool even if his words have a rather biting edge at times. (No offense to you Zac)

I actually think the forums have gotten a lot better than when I first came on. I felt at the time though that there was issues on both sides, moderators and users, but it`s gotten a lot better since then. If you have an issue, the administration is especially cooperative in trying to help you out.

Yeah, this is what I think you need to keep in mind. Internet forums are...well...just awful. They possess a dark and evil power to turn even the most friendly and reasonable people into angry jerks. It's kinda disturbing really. ANN is unfortunately guilty of this too. However, as it has strict and well enforced rules, it is much more minor. At worst it is only the subtle, passive aggressive hostility, found at family gatherings across the world. It's not perfect but a whole lot better than the more common 'lol fag' variety you find most elsewhere on the internet. |

Indeed, that is true. Perhaps I was over-reacting. I was just a bit fed up with it in general, and I guess this was the only place where I can vent with a possibility of not being shat on.
