The review made it sound decidedly...average, in every respect.
I'll confess, though, that I never cared much for the "humanoid doll" type shows, which is what killed any interest I may have had in this. I may be crazy for saying this, but those shows seem to have a decidedly misogynistic feel to them since these dolls/robots are ALWAYS female, or at least nearly always.

I argue that giving how this show ends (It´s gonzo times ten on the "What the hell" scale), that making it sound "Average" is downright generous.

No hating from me - I've loved Rozen Maiden all the way through. It resonates with me so much that I had to get my therapist to watch an episode of it (Traumend 1, I think) so she could understand what I was on about. She was pretty stunned by it from a psychoanalytic point of view. Anyway, while I accept the point that the way the US DVD volumes pan out creates a somewhat less than satisfactory combination of episodes here, how exactly is that relevant to anything? Be grateful that we don't get 1 or 2 episodes to a DVD like in Japan. And how could anyone rate the music as 'C'? This series has some of the most haunting bgm I've ever heard.

I agree, the accompanying music is quite beautiful at times and helps reinforce the feel they try to achieve with the whole gothic thing going on.
That's actually quite interesting, having a professional person analyze a show like Rozen Maiden. Although there are plot points (life lessons) the average watcher should be able to pick out, it would be interesting to listen to a more educated opinion and find out what they gather from it.
Although the whole doll thing is a well established genre unto itself, I think their interactions with Jun and the other Maidens are what is most interesting, and what kept me going till the end. I'm especially grateful we could end the series with domestic released
dvd's.

I guess I should have specified the collecting and clothing of real life dolls, with dresses as frilly / fancy as you see in R.M.

ANd this is the reason why no one pays attention to ANN's reviews most of the time. Sure it's a little medicore but the series overall is rather decent.I enjoyed season 1 and looking forward to season 2.

Its no wonder the R1 indusry is in the state its in,With friends like this, err,I mean 'reviews' like this, who needs enemies...
Between the mass piracy, with every 'fan' and its dog downloading and irc'ing, and megauplaoding their hearts out,Then we have sites like this, taking a squat and dumping over 3/4's of the titles on the market.
Eat your young much !?

Hm yes, it's the job of a reviewer to give everything positive reviews so it doesn't hurt sales.

I thought this was a decent review. Balanced (good and bad points covered) as well as informative (reasons for evaluations given). It's not very useful though to review DVDs from a series one at a time. I mean, people will either buy all of them, or none; not just one or two. If the episodes that end up on one disc happen to be slightly below average in some respect that doesn't mean much at all.

It's sad how a popular show gets a bad review and everyone has to defend it. Popularity doesn't mean it's good.
I think that it's a nice, balanced review.

Agreed. I don't have any real complaints about Carlo's review, and I'm a die-hard Rozen Maiden fan .
