Everytime I submit my avatar it either says file must be .gif, .jpg, .png even when i've checked that they are or it says file must be under 6Kb which is what mine are. So why won't it work if i have all the right requirements?

First of all, welcome to the forum! And to help you in your quest for an avatar, if you look at the right side of the screen, you'll see the link for Profile under the Forum Functions. At the bottom of the Profile page, there is an option that lets you load up an avatar either from your own computer or a website. However, the limations are that your picture must be no more than 80 by 80 pixels and under 6 KB. If you can find any picture that fits these criteria, it should work. Have fun! |

I am having a hard time getting the file size down, any ideas. I started with a 46 kb image, cut out about 80% out using photoshop and am still at 34 kb. Any solution to this problem?

Your avatar must be 6 kb or less. What I'd do is take a picture, go to Photoshop, crop the main part of the picture you want to put in, and adjust the pixel size to 80 x 80 pixels. It'll be pretty small, but that's the best the site has to offer. Good luck! |

Yes, I understand that the picture down to 6kb. Yes, I understand I need to get it down to 80 by 80 pixels. I'm still at 14 kb. I really wonder if there is anything that I'm missing at this point, for I freely admit not being the most technically proficient.
Thanks in advance. Nani? |

What format is your picture, gif or Jpeg? If it's in Jpeg, try dropping the color depth a notch or two. You copuld also try saving it in a different format to see if that changes the size significantly. |

With Photoshop there's a nice option in the file menu called "save for web". Click on that. In the new menu that comes up, there should be some options on the right to change it. If i remember correctly, there is an arrow that when you click on it several options pop up. One should be "optimize to file size". That will allow you to make the picture look it's best while cutting it down to 6k. Hope that helps. If you have any more problems or questions, let me know |

Are we to assume that you don't have Photoshop? Because if you have it, the problem has already been answered. If all you have is Paint and you need help with the file size, send me a private message and i'll see about helping you out. |
