Damn, 'Denno Coil' is in top form. Last year's show and it's still getting a good deal of notice. That is truly a good thing. Now if someone can make this next year's license. Hopes hopes hopes Razz

You and me both. It was my favorite series of 2007. I hope these awards get more people to check this wonderful series out. I feel for being such a good series it was criminally overlooked.

After hearing great things about it, I tried looking up free fansubs on YouTube, but they had nothing on this series. I bought the first import volume straight from Japan. No English subtitles, but I could tell just from the look of it it would be something I'd like. But again it wasn't subtitled, it was only a couple episodes on a $50 disc, so I had no intention of getting the rest online.

So they better license this at *some* point. I realize they're nit-picking just the best of the best of what could sell, but if someone did a sub-only release like Media Blasters does, then nobody would lose so much money right? I'd appreciate a dub, but whatever it takes for me to make this a part of my library, I'll be appreciative enough.

Bloody heck, will someone just license this thing already? Granted I'm not entirely sure how well it'll sell over here, but I'm sure plenty of those that have already seen it (and aren't antagonistic towards the R1 industry) will surely buy it. And even some that haven't seen it already might buy it, generally awards can do that.

Yeah, I've been waiting ages (erm, well, a half-a-year anyway) to hear about an R1 license for this. Somebody, make it happen already! The more awards it wins, the more expensive it'll be. So hop-hop-hop to it.

Despite it's excellence, Denno Coil isn't really as marketable in the US, which is probably hurting it's licensing chances. It is in the vein of .hack in terms of sci-fi mystery, but unlike .hack with had it's games and at least the impression of a fantasy story to push it, unless you get this show on TV, you're not really going to get anywhere with it.

I'm not getting the "drafted" line in the article. Also, I never realised there were Mardock Scramble novels and it they were award winners, cancelling the anime makes even less sense.

The thing about Dennou Coil is that it is a kid's series. They can either try and sell it to adults on video, in which case there's a pretty limited market (by all accounts Cardcaptor Sakura sold badly, and Sailor Moon doesn't seem to have done much better), or get a TV deal and there's two problems there - one is that I don't think anyone here wants 4kids or the like getting their hands on it, and they look to be in trouble anyway.

This is probably the single show that I most want licensed. Good to see that it's at least getting some more attention in Japan.

Denno Coil was great! I loved this show! Too bad I only watch fansubs and never keep the videos I download... I was expecting someone to license this a long time ago already! It is fantastic!

"Adapted from a novel series by Yasako Miyamura"? I just checked; the gensaku credit is to Mitsuo Iso.

Not that the show isn't awesome, of course. [and by god it needs a broadcast]

It mainly features kids and uses more kiddy-like art but I don't think it's a kids show, just like Kaiba isn't a kids show. Certainly the level of appreciation would not be as high among the 4kids crowd.

Since it was produced and aired in HDTV, it also deserves a BluRay release to really appreciate the visuals; or broadcasted in HDTV in the US if licensed. Of course that brings up a whole other issue of the R1 BD market.

This show deserves every award it gets and I wish it'd hurry up and get licensed and BluRay'd.
The thing about Dennou Coil is that it is a kid's series.
I wouldn't go that far. It's a story that can be enjoyed by children and the most of its main cast is children, but like Narnia or Wall-e or Miyazaki films, the story and the character relationships have excellent depth and solid writing, meaning someone of any age can get something out of it. One feature of a truly well-crafted story is that it can be enjoyed by multiple age groups and/or multiple times by the same person at different ages, and I think Dennou Coil fits that description.

That said, one of my staunchest allies in anime viewing flat-out refuses to give this show a try because he cannot get over the "Lain" vibes he picked up from reading anidb-style blurbs about the show and the fact that the cast is mostly underage. Some day I will get him to see the error of his ways, so help me Sacchi.
