Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but i just saw the following news from www.Gamespy.com

Gamespy wrote:
John Woo Options Rights to Metroid Movie
Hollywood hitmaker and Hong-Kong action-flick prodigy John Woo has apparently optioned the rights to make a Metroid movie, according to a recent Reuters story. That means that he'll be able to hunt down a script, possibly assemble a cast, and scare up some funding for a picture if he wants to -- there's no guarantee that a movie would be made, but the news seems to suggest that he's going to give it a try.

Metroid was never what we'd call deep on storyline, but the idea of a female bountyhunter using her assortment of gizmos in clever ways through one narrow escape after the next seems tailor-made for a Hollywood action flick. Here's hoping he can do the license justice!

So here's another live action movie which may or may not be made Rolling Eyes

The way that quote is written makes Metroid sound like another Lara Croft kind of movie, which I hate by the way.

I love Super Metroid on SNES, and I like using Samus on Super Smash Brothers sometimes, but I can't really see a movie about the game. Let alone directed by a gun loving maniac like John Woo.

My prediction is if they ever do make a Metroid movie, it'll be just like those crappy Tomb Raider movies. Let's just hope they find someone prettier than that Angelina Jolie. Mad

Metroid Prime has a very deep storyline, and would make an excellent film.

In the games, Samus is alone pretty much all of the time, so if they introduced some more charcters, I think it would do well.

*In a creepy fortune teller voice* I see...I see...Another tomb Raider or Final Fantasy TSW. Anime smile

Seriously, this shows us how much video games are popular these days and how they usually make crappy movies. I just hope this one doesn't.(Even though I never played it) Anime smile + sweatdrop

I see this movie as possibly being like Aliens. Or maybe a little more like an Aliens vs. Preditor with Samus being the Preditor in this case. And since Samus will most likely be wearing the suit all the time, this could mostly be a CG movie. Or atleast during the action scenes.

No matter how i think about it though, all i can see is a lot of scenes with one person wandering around an alien world and fighting various creatures. But there can be some really cool fight scenes with a "live action" (aka CG) Samus using her power suit. It could be interesting to see, but i'm not holding my breath.

I'm just worried that he'll pick John Travlota again for the role of the bad guy.

I doubt that because he could be a villan because most of the enemies are really huge unless they make it cg and it's his voice. Then again iono if it should be made into a live movie but keep it animated or cg animated. it's thier choice i hope it's better then tomb raider and final fantasy.

... and he can wear bad makeup like he did on Battlefield Earth. Watch. He's gonna be Mother Brain. I can feel it in my bones. Shocked

Since when does John Woo make cg movies? John Woo is none for making action oriented movies with lots of guns and violence. I doubt he will make Matroid a cg movie...

I'm looking forward to seeing how John Woo will incorporate a shootout in an abandoned church and flying white doves in this one, I really am. Maybe some kind of metroid-mutated doves will be the solution.

But seriously, the Metroid games are more adventure than they are action games. If they wanted to retain the adventurous exploring of alien and unknown environments atmosphere from the games in the movie then using John as a director is not the best choice.

I’ll just do like Jackie Chan in Operation Condor and expect the worst and hope for the best.

Of all videogame adaptations for john woo to direct would be Metriod?!!??
I believe that Metal Gear,Splinter Cell would be more of his liking, since he's well known for high-octane,gunblasting Crime actioners and a few espionage thrillers.
Confused
I guess he's attempting to branch out in his field....just like Ang Lee. (The Hulk)

Oh wellz.

don't mention the hulk it was horrible. Metal Gear would be more of his style though but if anybody makes a legend of zelda movie there will be heck to pay if it's terrible.

Towards the end of the movie, Samus will discover that the planet she landed on is really a run-down Earth. She'll then duck into a half-burnt chapel and engage Mother Brain or whatever the creature's called in the film's final showdown. Cue doves.

"You bastards! You blew it up!" and other such Hestonisms.

NO! Only one person on this planet is suitable for directing Metal Gear the movie and that is Hideo Kojima (The creator of the games). The man is more a movie director than he is a game creator anyway. I mean just play trough the games; they feel like movies with playable parts sprayed throughout them.

But as far as directors for Metroid are concerned I think we should all see the cup as half full rather than empty. At least they didn't go with the XXX director or something.

I never cared for videogame to movie adaptations anyway because movies and videogames are two such different mediums. Just because I enjoy playing Metroid as a game doesn't mean I have to care about a movie being made about. My interest in it in videogame from does not bleed over into other areas. Whether it stinks or not I will still continue playing and enjoying the games because the games are all I care about.

Well Kami you are correct in regards to Kojima's MGS games on a par to a movie-like experience. (even the guy that does the score Gregory harrison williams is known for producing music for movies.) And i may same the same for resident evil's Shinji Mikawa and the storyboard writers of Flagship. (Paul anderson's movie adaptation of RE was disapointing, let's hope RE Apocolyspe will make up for his previous flop.)

I however don't mind seeing my favorite videogame characters in live action movies. (Shinobi is in the works.) as long as the story and direction doesn't go the way of Street fighter, Tomb Raider and the god awful House of the Dead.

PS Not for nuthin, but the last 20 minutes of MGS sons of liberty's dialogue/storyline was "out there" (Shaking my head)

I beg to differ, Sure it's no spider-man, X2 or even Blade 2 for that matter, but i still enjoyed Ang's (Lee) adaptation.
Much better and paid more homage to the comicbook counterparts than the horrible tv series with Lou Ferrigno
