Sorry, my original post was a little rushed, so I decided to redo/edit it a little. Recently, Shonen Jump has gone through some changes, mostly, for the worse in my opinion. It has to many chapters of Naruto, which takes over the magazine, Yu Yu Hakusho is being utterly snubbed, and who knows what's going on with Bo-bo-bo. But, there are some good things jump, or Viz, is doing, like releasing a lot of their manga bi-monthly.
The shuffling around of titles in the magazine bugs me, like what they did with Gin Tama or Slam Dunk, and also with some of the longer series, like Shaman King and Hikaru no Go. But, it doesn't really matter to me, because I'll buy the volumes anyway.
Now, what my new pet peeve is, is when Viz takes an old, unpopular series, and releases once in a blue moon. Saint Seiya, Ultimate Muscle, Whistle, Dr. Slump, I mean, some of these titles are two or three volumes from being completed, so why can't Viz just finish them off.
Well, I've got in my gripes, but what about you? What do you like or dislike about Shonen Jump? What's your favorite manga being released? And do you enjoy five chapters of Naruto or wish they'd go back to the old system?

A simple search and bump would've sufficed. It'd be nice to see this merged with the former thread in some way.
Anyways, I have my fair share of complaints about the magazine, as well.
While I don't mind reading 4-5 chapters of Naruto every month in the end of it all, I can certainly see what you mean, and I am disgruntled by the fact that it led to the dragging of various manga during the initial rush, especially Yu-Gi-Oh!. I thought that Naruto would revert back to three chapters a month after the new arc started up, only to find out that this trend would continue. As much as I would like to see Viz release additional chapters of their other serialized titles, I can see why they're doing it. Naruto's a hot commodity, so why not milk it some more when the iron's still hot? Also, this would give them a sizable gap by the time Shippuden starts in the USA (not that it need much help anyways, given how much it drags the storyline, from what I've heard).
Only two chapters of Yu Yu Hakusho every month is rather irritating, though. OK, so it's not very popular anymore, but can't they add an additional chapter every now and then? This my major gripe of Shonen Jump now - back in the day, every title got an additional chapter a week in what seemed like a rotational basis. I'm grateful that they kept it in the mag, as it looked like it would be able to be finished off relatively soon. But not if they decide to drag it like this. Let YYH lay to rest already, Viz!
One Piece's release has slowed down a little bit as well, with the volumes being scheduled on an alternating 3-4 month basis instead of its former consistent 3-month waiting period in-between volumes. I can't say I'm too happy about this either, despite how minimal it is.
What really aggravates me though is Viz's treatment of Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo. They give us a couple of random chapters in two instances as a preview, and then they start at a random point in a story arc a year later? Maybe I wouldn't have been so disappointed at this if the manga volumes started at the beginning, which they didn't. Yes, this series is random to the point where it might not matter as much, but all series should start with their intended beginnings, IMO.
Three chapters of Bleach is fine. That's an adequate release speed, allowing for quarterly releases. Though I do remember 1-2 instances where it got two chapters. Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is a special case, so I don't really have a comment on it.
The shuffling of series actually isn't a bad idea, if done right and at the right time. Gintama and Slam Dunk's serializations were intended to be extended previews, giving those series a chance to build a fanbase and get some exposure. Cutting them after giving the magazine readers 1-2 volumes of material to sample isn't nearly as painful as in the case of Shaman King and Hikaru no Go. (Though Shaman King needed it, as it was simply past its prime.)

I'm aggravated about YYH because it's so close to ending(maybe 3 volumes worth left), but at 2 chapters a month it's gonna take another year or so.
While I'm not a particular fan of Bobobo, the fans are getting a crappy deal. Although, honestly, one chapter per issue is about all I can handle, but I understand why fans of it should be pissed.
The only series that truly should NOT be there is YuGiOh GX. It's not even a proper Jump manga! It's from V Jump or something, not from Weekly or Monthly/SQ. Also, the Naruto thing is getting out of control. It's monopolizing the magazine. We're getting more than half of a Naruto volume every issue (which is a good deal actually), but I would rather they do something like alternating every issue which series gets to have a higher chapter count.
And One Piece is just a lost cause. Alabasta? Really? It's been 5 or 6 years and they're upto Alabasta?? Really? This is the one and only instance where I've turned to scanlations of a licensed series because it's released far too slow for such a long series. I know it's not that popular here, but it's the tentpole of Jump in Japan, it should be treated a bit better.
(I still want Bleach to be out of the magazine, but the volumes are released at a decent rate...and as One Piece shows us, it could be MUCH MUCH worse.)
I'm REALLY looking forward to Tegami Bachi. It's nice to see them bringing something relatively new.

I agree that YYH and One Piece have been being released quite slowly. One Piece used to be ahead of Naruto, which is now at vol. 33, One Piece at vol. 17. Not that I have a problem with Naruto, but they should slow it down, just alittle. I would like to know why Bleach is in Shonen Jump America though, I really like the series, but they started publishing it in Shonen Jump USA in midstory. I'm thinking about the readers who may not have read the single volumes. They had to have been confused. But anyway, there's nothing I can do. I just needed to gripe.

- My point exactly. On a side-note, I liked how they put it ahead of everything else this issue, with HxH coming out in December. Well, except for Naruto. NOTHING is serialized before Naruto nowadays. (YYH)
- I can take as much as I can get, really. Though some people do find the humour tiring. I just want the damn thing in chronological order! Until they do that, I'm not buying it, especially since it's just whatever's been serialized already. (Bo^7)
- Well, we all know why GX is being serialized. Really, I'm not too bothered by it - I know it can't go any faster, and it's only one chapter per month. Though I can see why people complain about it.
- They used to do the alternating thing back in the early issues of the magazine. Eventually, Naruto and One Piece would consistently get three chapters a month, while YYH, Shaman King, Hikaru no Go and YGO would still have the alternating thing going on. YGO began to slow down first, but the real slowdowns happened last year, when the first Naruto Nation occurred (yeah - the first one - looks like another one will happen).
To tell you the truth, Bleach's serialization was inevitable. It really only had another year or two before the risk of it catching up would appear, and I guess they decided to start its serialization at the beginning of a brand-new arc, which would make more sense than in the middle of one.

Geeze, I heard about this too (same place as you I think...I'm assuming you're the same Buster Blader on the animeondvd forums? I don't have an account, just lurk from time to time)
Seriously, it's overkill. They're gonna catch completely up to the Japanese release. While that's probably the main thing I want to happen with every manga I collect...this is a bit too much. I understand Naruto is the new DBZ and all, but it just seems a little odd to have this zooomed to volume 45 by next July, while the 50+ volume One Piece is still in the late teens. I rather see them spend their resources on boosting several of their other series at once(Reborn please), although not by such drastic measures.
It's also kind of annoying because I follow Naruto only through the magazine. I like the series, but not enough to ever go out of my way to watch or read it (I wouldn't buy, download it, whatever). Last time it just so happened that the anime on Toonami(R.I.P.) was at about the same point where the manga left off when it left the magazine, but that probably won't happen this time.

The only Jump title I'm currently reading outside of the magazine is Muhyo and Roji and it's been on a bi-monthly schedule so no complaints there.
It's getting ridiculous with One Piece though. Since Vol. 18 came out they've put it on a four month schedule and Vol. 22 isn't going to come out until June at the earliest. Unless they squeeze in another volume by December of next year they'll only publish three volumes again. They say it's very popular but the way they treat it really doesn't show it.
Edit: If that second mass of Naruto books does come out I really wonder how they'll handle it in the magazine. They can't possibly keep it at 5 chapters a month after that but I just can't see them permanently removing it from the magazine.

Yeah, that's me.
That's exactly how I feel. I'm not going to go buy the volumes that were not serialized, and I generally don't read scans save for a few select titles that are either on hiatus in North America, or have a snowball's chance in hell of getting licensed (with the exception of one title - Kimi no Iru Machi). The library system in my city isn't updated yet, either. As much as it pains me to say it, I might just have to read it through other means.

It looks like Vol. 20 will be out in February. This will be the second consecutive month that a volume of One Piece took four months to be released. This certainly doesn't bode well. Oddly enough, it seems to be getting three chapters in the magazine fairly frequently recently, if I remember correctly.
They're liking going to skip a chunk of the storyline again, like they did the first time around. It was more tolerable the first time, since I was watching the Sasuke Retrieval arc on YTV anyways. But now? Not so much.

Just like everybody else, I'm pissed with how One Piece and Bleach are getting treated (but more so with OP), but I'm a fan of Naruto as well, so I can't really complain about it's getting treated.
I get the SJ magazine kinda irregularly because they just suddenly appear where my mom works at in the mail, so I get them for free. So I really do stick to the volume releases, and look back at the magazine to look at the color pages.
If a 2nd Naruto Nation happens, then I'll be happy. Both because we'll get more Naruto volumes, and because there will probably be more One Piece and Bleach in the magazine, allowing for faster releases of the volumes.
But Viz is so incoherent and inconsistent with everything that they do that I don't really know what to expect from them either in the manga or anime side, other than the fact that they'll keep on promoting Naruto. >.>

I know what you mean. I like OP, Bleach and Naruto as well, but I do have to say they should treat Bleach and especially OP better.
As for Naruto Nation, I must've hit my head, because I do not know what that is/was. Could someone please fill me in, maybe my head will be back to normal.

It was an event by Viz Media that happened last year where they released 12 volumes of Naruto in 4 months (September-December).

I'm really glad they added Slam Dunk, personally. I'd never heard of it before and I'm not exactly a sports fan, and I wasn't expecting much. I was happy to find out that it is very enjoyable. I like reading a light series like this when I am also reading something rather dark and/or serious. Helps balance things out .
I wish they had more Bo-bobo, though.

I enjoy slam dunk, also, but to bad that it's coming out of the magazine in the February issue or something.
What I'm really excited for is the new Naruto Nation. With us totally catching up to the Japanese release, there's no way Jump will be able to serialize Naruto with 5 chapters a month. They'll have to make it two, or three at most.

I wouldn't celebrate that just yet.
Note that Japan gets 4-5 chapters a month of any given Weekly Shonen Jump title every month, barring any breaks and/or hiatuses. If they intend to be very close to the Japanese release, they might just keep up with that pace. So when WSJ releases its chapters during March, we will get February's chapters during March here in North America, for example. This is if they can really work fast enough to do so and if they can get the materials fast enough, I gather.

From what my Slam Dunk-obsessed friend and others online tell me, I can tell you right now that this series gets quite emotional and can be quite moving indeed. It is one of Japan's more celebrated titles for a reason.
