This forum is a place for people to talk about the vampire manga that they like, or of any that they know of. Please name the series, and elaborate on the story and plot, not something like this. (hellsing: it is cool bcause it has vampires and stuff.lol. and really co0l guns.bamf guns! ) Something like that would be an insult to my intelligence, so please dont be like that, K?

Well, that I've read...
Vampire Knight -- This is more suited to the romantic novel view of vampires. I've just started reading it: Much better than Twilight, but many of the same elements. Classic "reluctant vampire" story with good character development and an intriguing love triangle where the lead female knows what she wants, but the audience wants her to choose something different, rather than the heroine herself waffling. Highly recommend. Chibi Vampire -- Quirky story, vampire goodness for those who don't love the vampire genre necessarily. Comedy-based, it can venture into old conventions very quickly and may not be for everyone, but at least the premise is very original, and the characters charming and lovable, something not common in vampire stories. It's comfortable territory for shoujo, but almost looks new in a faux-horror setting. (She gives blood, doesn't take it.) Hellsing -- This is more suited to the action/horror aspect of vampire lore. It's complex, dark and treacherous ground, with superpowered vampires of supernatural and occultic origin. Don't let the sheer crap-quality of the anime fool you: the manga is quite the ride. However, the story development is much the same, and if you can't follow the complicated politics behind the struggle or can't abide the high gore count, you may want to start with something tamer. But vampire horror DOES NOT get better than Hellsing. Yeah, I haven't read anything very "niche," I'm afraid, but these are all good starter series, and they're all VERY different, so that should illustrate the differences between them depending on what you're after. But they're all popular series...that have already been mentioned within two posts of the thread... (I'm of the opinion that vampire stories should be very romantic and just a little scary and questionable.) |

Dance in the Vampire Bund - "After millennia in hiding, Mina Tepes, the Princess of the ancient covenant and ruler of all vampires, wants change. Using the vast wealth of the Tepes line, she has paid off the entire gross national debt of Japan and in so doing, gained the authority to create a "special district" off the coast of Japan that is to become the future haven to vampires the world over! Now, on the eve of the landmark press conference announcing the existence of vampires to the world, terrorists and rival factions plot to assassinate Mina before she has a chance to make her world-changing announcement!"

I liked Model. Its a manhwa.
Plot Summary: Jae is a Korean art student studying in Europe. One night her friend brings a drunk man to her apartment, saying that she couldn't leave him at the bar. Jae isn't too happy about this, but lets him stay. That night, Jae dreams that the man came and drank her blood. When she wakes up, she finds that he is quite good-looking, so as payment for him staying there, she draws him. After he wakes up, he's not too happy about this, especielly after she tells him that he drank her blood. After some persuasion, Michael agrees to let Jae draw him in exchange for her blood. -ANN Its only 6 or 7 books long iirc. It was easy to collect. I try to only collect shorter series. The story can get a little confusing at times but not so much so. |

I was sorta interested in starting Karin myself. It looked kinda funny. I actally haven't read too many Vampire mangas (or seen many anime for that matter)
That said, I have Blood+ I'd recommend that. Blood+ is about a schoolgirl named Saya, who can't remember her past because she has amnesia. Anyway long story short she's a vampire and she's been alive for over 100 years and she doesn't remember. Anywa long story short for a number she's out to try and kill of all the other Vampires. Anyway its a bit different from the traditional vampire mytholgies (that i'm used to anyway, but then again, its the first vampire story i've seen that wasn't western, so IDK how it compares to other eastern vampire stories. That said I just started Rosario + Vampire (manga), I've only flipped through a few pages, but it seems interesting so far. but I'm not really far enough to give a synopsis. Anyway |

I definitely second Hellsing. Its got a great story, lots of blood, and excellent characters. Alucard is the freakiest antihero ever.

Just to drop an title I haven't seen listed on here yet:
Dark Edge - it is a vampire/ghoul work. The plot is acutally rather engrossing and the art is excellent. The work focuses on how "evil genes" (the DNA of a vampire that changes a human into a vampire) effect different people and how some vampires are lacking in this area. The school setting is a little dull. Since it feels like a setting for a cheap horror movie, but it is well played out. Even if you feel yourself screaming - why are you going BACK! Sadly, the first two vols were published by Comics One before it was absorbed by DR Publishers - so vols 1 & 2 are hard to find. On the plus side I believe I've seen bundle pack for vols 1-6 on the internet - if anyone is interested in checking this one out. (No I don't work for the publisher - I'm just throwing out info.) This said JesuOtaku & .Metal. are right. For vampire manga/anime there is nothing better than Hellsing! I just got vol 9 in my hands last night and it is torture waiting for my day to end in order to read it. Alucard is the best vampire ever - no angst, no oh I can't bite a human. He is who he is and dear God I love him for it. Plus, for a hero, he is so wonderfully wicked. |

So when are you going to give us your favorite series as well? Nothing can outdo Hellsing. Absolutely nothing. Alucard is one of the best anti-heroes I have ever seen, and Anderson totally pawns as well. Integra is smart minded, way better than her TV anime counterpart, and Seras is just hot. What else can I say? |

love vampire knight
but kinda upset that they made the amine kinda bad i understand they always change the story line a little bit when they adapt manga to anime.. but seriously, the quality of the drawings are often very poor and basically a disgrace to hino-sensei's pretty art |
