Although events like that are often fun, I wonder if any of those fans realize the chance of actually getting the $100 gift card is quite low? I work in sales, so I know the higher ups make a system so almost no one wins the best prizes.

Though I personally don't like Haruhi, if this is what is keeping Bandai afloat, then so be it. [/i]

This sounds like it might have been fun but I don't think I will be able to make it to NY this weekend on such short notice. Sad

Stuff like this is why I often forget that I like Haruhi.

Isn't the manga horrible, though?

(I love the anime.)

I believe it is a one year subscription to Yen Plus the manga anthology, not Yen Press the North American Publisher that Publishes the anthology. I do that all the time when I talk about it too.

On another not I wish I could go to this thing Sad

Boy, I wish they could do stuff for the Kinokuniya out here in California. I am envious.

I wish I didn't have a midterm the next day, or I would definitely go. XD; Kinokuniya events are always interesting.

Realistically, this is just a event where the manga is shown as well as the anime, both can be done via internet, graphic novel and dvd. I really can't imagine this so important to miss work for, especially if your boss is the typical angry type.

I went to the event with my friend. It was kinda boring if you ask me.

The main tag line of the event was "Fill out a raffle form and get slapped". The slapped part was they gave out these orange bands that wrap around your arm. It's orange on one full side, has "Director" or whatever it is in black text, in Japanese like in the show, to the left in yellow/orange it says OCTOBER 2008, to the far right it has the Yen Press logo. Turn it around and it's all black, with the Haruhi Suzumiya logo and character stance in red.

They gave out a sample booklet with manga pages of the series, and posters of Haruhi, or some other shows.

The screening was pretty much the TV over the wall with the volume turned down, until they did the Hare Hare Yukai dance like a total of 3 times.

There was SOME cosplayers, but over all the event wasn't much fun. If it wasn't for the slap bands, I'd be completely dissatisfied.

Some photos:

I would post more but I caught imageshack just as it went down, heh.

For one, I was there since the event started. The Yen Plus staff asked a couple of questions, and who ever that get it right gets a free book that was published by Yen Press. However, there was someone who got the first Haruhi manga, even before it was released! I know the person now but I wont say any names *cough*. There was even a contest for us to dance to the ending song of the Haruhi anime. I got a 'Sunshine Sketch' Vol. 1 while my little brother got a 'Black God' Vol. 3 and a 'Croquis Pop' Vol. 1. All in all, it was a pretty good event and a pretty good haul. Three free books and four new manga volumes that I bought with my own money. I just wish that I could get that $100 Kinokuniya Gift Card. Just think what I could buy with that...*drools* By the way, if you were there, you should have recognized me from the ANN Panel in NYAF since I consider the green shirt I wore then *kinda* lucky.
