Crunchyroll hosting a bilingual anime? Well, that's a first.

I've seen the first part, and it got me intrigued with the story. I'm really looking forward to the rest of it getting streamed!

Same.
Seemed like a very interesting movie-thingy and I was/am anticipating the rest of it.
Thought I still wish Crunchyroll would get better quality.

I don't care about boring Yoshiura-anime but this could be the beginning of a broader range of free and legal anime streams and that's a good thing.
Gainax said at a German convention two weeks ago that they'll consider anime streams as well once a con visitor told them about Gonzo streaming stuff.

Well... this is surprising.
On one hand, it's great that Yoshiura is getting more attention, and that Time of Eve will be legally available to watch with English subtitles.
On the other hand, this is Crunchyroll.

Cool! I'm loving this series so far. I'm glad to be able to watch it legally, even if it is Crunchyroll.

I would prefer it on DVD or Blu-ray. So I guess we won't see it that way now that CR has internet rights. No major distirbutor will probably touch this with a 10 ft. poll.
No DVD, no Blu-ray. This majorly sucks.

I'm still unclear as to why corporations still are promoting/supporting Crunchyroll. Doesn't anyone else remember how the hell they got started? All these companies are sending the message that it's okay to start illegal then start legal later. Aside from the questionable legality of fansubs itself, Crunchyroll's dubiously legal start makes me wonder if we are sending the right message.
I still protest the whole thing by not bothering to get anything from them, instead turning my attention to sights such as BOST, Joost, and Hulu. I think that the whole anime community in general should be protesting this sort of support, no matter how popular or widely known Crunchyroll is. Yes, I will concede to the fact that maybe due to Crunchyroll, digital distribution may have taken off ( i'm still unsure about this, given funimation's stance as well, and the fact that funimation now pretty much reigns in North America in terms of distribution shares ), but I can't concede that it somehow retroactively makes their past activity valid.
All in all, this particular show looks pretty boring anyway, though quite beautiful. I'll watch Makoto Shinkai over this guy any day of the week ( And I really didn't like 5cm ).

Plus the price is outragious...

Each episode (Act) is only 15 minutes long as it was viewed in Japan online. They need to clarify the definition of "episode". Does "episode" = 1 or 2 Acts?

Crunchyroll still seems to be, to paraphrase, more hat than cattle. The 'freebie' angle is a glass half full/half empty kind of deal. Playing up the 'social' angle on one hand taps into what the young fanbase community really likes, on the other hand 'swag/value-added' runs the danger of becoming the draw rather than the show. 'Swag' can only work, on several levels, for so long.
In the 'make sure the intellectual creator get's credit/paid' department, forget the fansub/Crunchyroll angle, is 'Time of Eve' compensating Isaac Asimov's estate?

Why should it compensate his estate? If you are referring to similarities to Asimov works, then I still am not seeing it. His estate didn't produce what Asimov himself did. The guy is dead, he surely doesn't need the money, and I fail to see why children/grandchildren/etc. deserve money for something they had nothing to do with.

It's a facetious remark comparing the plotline of 'Time of Eve' to a popular narrative design of Asimov's. If you don't see intrinsic similarities, than you've never read much of Asimov.

Going for the quick buck and cutting out the traditional R1 distributors is going to bite those R2 companies in the butt someday. There was prob no reason that this title couldn't have seen a traditional release.

I haven't, but I figured you were saying that. I just wanted to make sure you were being facetious about the paying part.
