From the Del Rey website:
Quote:

Ten-year-old Negi Springfield, just graduated from a British school for wizards, is being sent to Japan to teach English--at an all-girls high school. And although he's under strict instructions not to display his magic powers, Negi just can't resist using them to help others. Even though his conjuring sometimes makes things worse! Negi's teenage students are delighted with their cute new teacher, and when he ends up having to room in the girls' dorm, they're thrilled. All excerpt for Asuna, who resents Negi for replacing the teacher she's got a crush on. Now she's determined to make Negi's life as difficult a possible--especially when she discovers his wizardly abilities. But no matter what, it's up to Negi to guide his class through the trials of high school life--and whatever other adventures may come their way--in a hilarious series that every teen will relate to.

I bought the first 2 volumes in Japanese, and have been (slowly) reading and translating them. It seems pretty decent to me, I guess I'd probably say that if you like Ken Akamatsu's other stuff like Love Hina or AI Love You, you will probably like this series. His art style and character designs don't change much from series to series, and like most of his other stuff it has a lot of fanservice in it.

lucky son of a gun... reading it in japanese...
Like the majority of the N. American world I have to wait for vol. 2 to come out in august. I really really enjoyed the first one. Also... why is A.I. Love you only up to vol. 2 in N.A.? I thought that was finished in like shonen jump a billion years ago or something, i've got both the mangas though and its really wierd seeing akamatsu's old art.

Actually, it was over a good few years ago. Even before Love Hina. AI ga Tomaranai (AI Love You) was Akamatsu-sensei's first published series if I have not mistaken, and his style has changed since Itsudate My Santa, a little two part shorty which was in Shounen Jump for 2 issues around Christmas before the year LH was published. Love Hina was a turning point in his style, which during development traces of his old drawing style can still be seen. But it ended up as it is now, and Negima is done in the same style.

On a more complete note, AI ga Tomaranai was originally complete in 9 books. Reprints got it into 8. I don't know of releases in US so don't ask me what happened to the other books that are not available.
