Boom!
If Seikan Hikou also made it to the top 3 on its debut week, the headline would have been "5th Macross Frontier CD in Top 3" |

You know why? Because it's good music and you can't deny that! Macross + Kanno + great singers = HIT!
My only hope is harmony Gold sees what a hit this show and songs are and want to actually make some money off it! |

I'm hoping for a single of "Anata no oto" that played in ep 19 and 20.

How come the Slayers Revolution OP/ED single making it to the Top 3 doesn't get mentioned as well, or did it? Ok, it's only one, but still nice. Also Ponyo was up there quite a while and maybe still is.
But I don't even feel that the Macross Frontier songs are that great. They are good, but dunno ... f.ex. Maaya Sakamoto + Yoko Kanno can still be so much better (Kiseki no Umi, Hemisphere, Yakusoku ha iranai,... Triangler doesn't quite compare to those) |

Did you only listen to Triangular? Because frankly speaking, Triangular is the worst of all the Macross Frontier songs based on my personal opinion. May'n is an AMAZING singer and seriously, Diamond Crevasse is rising very rapidly in my anime songs list....I can't quite say it's the "best anime song I ever heard" because that's difficult to determine, but it's getting there. Beautiful vocals and heartbreaking lyrics, the way May'n presented Diamond Crevasse, putting her emotions into it....truly beautiful. Give it a try. I bet you'll like it - even more if you find the translations for the lyrics for the song, or watch the ending clip of episode 6. CONGRATULATIONS TO MAY'N, MAMEGU, and MACROSS FRONTIER!! |

i'd have to say Macross Frontier has the best soundtrack of this year so far. you can't beat Yoko Kanno.

This show has alot of good music in it. I might buy the soundtrack if it includes all the songs that were sung in the show.

Totally agree with you take on Diamond Crevasse. I did not like it at first when I heard it at the ending. But by ep6 when they played the whole song near the end, I thought this is one of the best Anime song for the year. May'n's voice and the way she performed it was amusing. Consider how old she only is and that she already has this singing talent, I hope she can get more opportunity in the Japanese main stream music industry rather than stuck with singing Anime songs. |

I'm not sure if the Slayers one was reported or not, but I suppose that if it made it to the top 3 in the weekly (as opposed to just daily) rankings, then to be fair, ANN should have reported it. To date, these are the Macross F CDs, their highest weekly rank, and whether they were reported or not: Triangler: Rank 3 - Reported Diamond Crevasse: Rank 3 - Reported OST 1 (Nyan Fro.): Rank 3 - Reported Seikan Hikou: Rank 5 - Not reported Lion: Rank 3 - Reported So as you could see, it's consistent that if the CD gets within top 3 in their weekly ranking, then its gets a report in ANN. Also, I second the vote that Triangler is easily the worst-written Macross F song. Diamond Crevasse, Northern Cross, and Seikan Hikou are great and deserve the sales figures. May'n can really belt a song if she wants to. Okay, found it, Slayers Revolution OP/ED only made it to top 6 in the weeklies selling 14,940 copies, hence wasn't reported: *1 160,032 Hey!Say!JUMP *2 *75,086 aiko *3 *36,973 藤岡藤巻と大橋のぞみ *4 *16,551 FUNKY MONKEY BABYS *5 *15,223 新垣結衣 *6 *14,940 林原めぐみ *7 *13,149 パク・ヨンハ *8 *13,027 GReeeeN *9 *12,794 マキシマム ザ ホルモン 10 *12,317 嵐 |

ah, you're right. It's Ponyo that has been up at 3 for 4 weeks now. But that wasn't reported either was it? W-general: I totally agree that Diamond Crevasse is a beautiful song, but I actually prefer Aimo (the movie version o.o ), Voices or some of the slower songs from Macross Zero, f.ex.. Seikan Hikou on the other hand I really can't get into, sounds like completely average J-Pop and Yoko Kanno has done better already imho. And most of the insert songs in Frontier were just like that to me, i.e. none of them made it into my playlist. I also think that the old version of "Ai wo oboeteimasuka" is way better. But of course the Macross Frontier songs are supposed to be "idol music" and that's simply a genre I don't care much about anyway, so it's a very subjective opinion. ^^ Last edited by maaya on Wed Aug 27, 2008 2:18 am; edited 1 time in total |

I can't seem to find any news here about the Ponyo single being in Oricon (looks like it stayed #3 for 3 weeks). I do not know how it flew out of ANN's radar, perhaps they were busy about the other news of it's showing in the box office, which look pretty good too.

Most definitely not. Let me bring up another example of anime theme song single, sang by voice actress Mizuki Nana no less, that sold extremely really well but never got reported AFAIK: Eternal Blaze (Nanoha A's opening theme song) - Oricon Weekly Rank 2 (this was 2005, so it's old, I'm willing to cut slack, however it was the FIRST ever voice actress' personal single to rank second in the Oricon weekly chart, never got reported) Secret Amibiton (Nanoha StrikerS opening theme song) - Oricon Weekly Rank 2 (2007 April... never seen it reported) Starcamp EP (Rosario + Vampire OP/ED) - Oricon Weekly Rank 2 (Febuary 2008 - not reported) Note all the examples I brought up were songs sang by a voice actress specifically for anime titles and not some mega-hit Jpop artist doing tie-ins such as Orange Range/T.M. Revolution/Gackt/insert-your-favourite Jpop artists etc. I think it's just a case that the word "MACROSS" is a lot louder and gets reported. *shrug* |

Actually, JA wikipedia says it only hit #5. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/STARCAMP_EP But yeah, Eternal Blaze and Secret Ambition should have been reported, although, like you said, one is three years old and the other over a year old. |
