OK so most game to anime adaptaions sucked. Well what if the japanese or some animation studio or whatever adapted american games to anime? Like Tony Hawk's Underground or Ratchet & Clank or even Max Payne or the Grand Theft Auto series. Also they could actually make a final fantasy anime based off a game? That would be nice instead of like FF:U or that whole CG movie. It would acutally be pretty cool.

Right they could call it Advent Children or something like that, heh.
I agree that it might be neat to see a game like GTA made into a anime. I don't really know how anime companies go about scouting for new stories though. I always figured they pretty much didn't and waited for the stories to come to them. So unless the people at Rockstar or any other american game companies approach them...

I hate to break it to you, but the fact that game to anime adaptations suck doesn't have anything to do with the games being Japanese. More likely it was because of a limited budget and not so talented staff. And last I checked the storyline and worlds of Japanese games were about a million times better that the endless series of American MMORG and FPS games. But that's just my opinion though.

Not so sure about this. I mean, most of those Japanese fighting games that end up as anime titles have basically no story behind them, which is why they usually end up being absolutely atrocious. And anime based on bishoujo games tend to end up as "Generic Harem Title #5," except on rare occasions where one actually manages to stand up & do something beyond the shallow romances it was designed for (i.e. Tsukihime).
And then with American games, there are some very good stories coming out of them these days. Halo, Deus Ex, Max Payne...Knights of the Old Republic has one of the best plot-twists I've seen in a game in years (yes, it is a Star Wars game, but the actual story has no ties to previous SW entities, and thus can be considered original within an existing concept).
Generalisations like "this nation is creative while this one isn't" are pretty foolish and actually sort of racist. I thought we already went over this in another thread.

I believe I said that it was my opinion, if it is racist then so be it. I’m just a person who has been gaming since the age of 8 and likes to think he knows what he likes. Sure fighting games have never had a story, but that is just the way they have always been. Most gamers prolly wouldn't even care if their fighting games did have an great story, they play them for a different reason. And I was talking in broad general terms, which excludes isolated cases. I believe that the Japanese games, in general, sport a better storylines and are generally better their American counterparts. This is the conclusion I've reached after playing games from each country for many, many years. I fail to see how that makes me racist but if it does then feel free to call me one, it doesn’t really bother me.

*thinks the only videogame worth turning into an anime at the moment would be Forbidden Siren or Silent Hill*
I find there's very little american videogames I like. Maybe it's due to lack of American RPGs, and RPGs are the only ones I can see having a decent story line, because well, that's what makes a good rpg.
Was Parasite Eve Square Japan, or Square America? That one would be a pretty cool anime too.

Well, I don't think a GTA anime be very good. The style of drawing would probably look like Riegn the Conquerer and I didn't like how they drew that anime. I wish they could make a Guilty Gear anime. I think it would be a real good anime, and that they have enough money to spport it by making more games.

KOTOR's twist with the main character, I didn't see that one coming that really suprised me. They just have to pick the right game to get a good series, I think the game that has the most plot twist is the Legacy of Kain series that would make a long and complicated anime.

What about the Metal Gear Solid series? They have so many plottwists that you kind of come to expet them after a while. And the second incarnation has a plot so complicated it makes Evangelion look like an episode of Tom & Jerry.
Onimusha wouldn't make a bad anime either if it were delivered in the right hands. I would personally like to see an ICO anime where the atmosphere from the game is kept intact. Drakengard is shaping up like it might have an interesting plot. I agree with you on RPG's and Silent Hill, which is one of my personal favourite game series. Resident Evil also has a rather interesting plot, which might lend itself to become a rather interesting anime.
There are plenty of Japanese games with great plots, which could potentially be made into a great anime. But as Nagisa pointed out fighting games and other hopeless titles are chosen over these for receiving a conversion. The Final Fantasy anime are an exception where a game series actually worth converting is chosen. Unfortunately it was the franchise that was chosen and not the individual titles, and seeing as how no one from square was involved in writing the script the results were sub par.
In the end I think that it doesn’t matter what the source materiel is if it isn’t delivered into the hands of talented people. Videogame to anime conversion are not so often about making a quality anime so much as they are a ploy to make a few yen by slapping a well-recognized name on your crappy anime. The brand recognition alone will make sure that a lot of copies are sold no matter how bad the product is.

Ooh. That sounds nice. Metal Gear Solid for PS1 is one of my favorite games for that system. It kind of reminds me of some Hollywood movie I saw. It might have been "True Lies," but I think that's way off. But still, I think MSG would make a great anime.

Hmm. Yup, yup! I love this series too. Onimusha 2 really made me think of Ninja Scroll for some reason (aside from the main character being named Jubei). I would love for their to be an anime based on those games. It would probably end up like Ninja Scroll meets Inuyasha or something like that. Feudal Japan settings are probably my favorite type of atmosphere too. Ah well, I guess I could always hope, but I'm usually pretty pessimistic, so it probably won't work.
And also, for some reason, I'd like to see the Fatal Frame series made into anime form. It's weird though because it's so freaky looking, it kinda makes me think of Boogiepop Phantom. But I haven't even seen Boogiepop yet. Oh well, guess it's just me.

Hmm.... American/European based videogames with excellent stories.
The Getaway, Halo, Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, anything from Peter Molyneux, Manhunt, Mafia, Crimson Skies, Deus Ex, etc... etc... etc...
However, I honestly believe that video game to anime translations aren't really meant to be. You experience the story of the game much differently than you do the story of an anime. As good a story as Halo is, it's the presentation that really makes it special. And you couldn't get that presentation from an anime.

What about Castlevania? I think I recall you saying you liked that series (I could be wrong). Is that Alucard in your avatar?
I don't really remember much of the Belmont era of Castlevania, but I have "Symphony of the Night" and that game's pretty good. Not to mention, I also like a lot of supernatural stuff.

Of all the video games I've ever played I think Castle Vania would, indeed, be the best to adapt to an anime. Vampires are still "in" (just look at this years ratings for Angel), and there already exists a good amount of plot material to serve as fodder for an anime.
As for american games, few computer games look interesting enough although I thought an attemp was made with Mechwarrior. On the whole this doesn't seem to thrilling of an idea. A lot of popular games are strategy games like Homeworld, Warcraft, Civilization. There really isn't enough material there to make a good anime. You can't just start with the concept of humans versus orcs and then try to invent something that is going to hold an audience's attention.
Also there are a slew of games that would be better off never animated. This includes things from both sides of the Pacific. The top on my list to never get animated is Grand Theft Auto. A frightening advertisement to invest in a life of crime f there ever was one...
Disect at your leisure.
