I noticed some chick walking by with a t-shirt from the series, which surprised me, since she seemed to be about in her 20s at best, and since I always imagined it being more of a guy-oriented series paying only some lip service to the female demo. But I could be wrong, and girls might be into it more than I expected.
The only other possibilities I can think of are that she's a hardcore anime fan preparing for AX, and doesn't represent the average chick fan, or she just got the shirt, because she liked the pic and logo, and doesn't know a damn thing about it otherwise. |

Seems entirely possible. We live in an age in which it is not unusual to see teenage girls walking around in Ramones, Motorhead, Blondie or Motley Crue T-shirts as some sort of retro chic despite never having heard anything by those bands. Advertising the logo of something you know nothing about seems fairly ludicrous to me but fashion and common sense have ever been strangers... Then again, maybe she's really into car chases and paedophilia.

Gunsmith Cats was one of the titles I screened at our school's anime club's very first meeting some three or four years ago. Our group then (and today, actually) was comprised of more than 50% women, and it went over very well with them. I'm not sure if it was a title they would have sought out on their own, but watching it at the meeting like that just seemed to work. And sure, it is primarily aimed at male fans, but I think I can see why Rally's character is appealing to women. She's a very empowered character.
At the same time, I wouldn't discount the possibility it's some other random reason like the ones both of you mentioned.
By the way, you sound very progressive there. |

Gunsmith Cats actually do work to attract female viewers. Upholding law and take on guys are few that I hear from the girls. Although, the guys like the sheer action of it.
It may not attract a whole slew of girls due to its fast pace and violence. The possibility is there, because girls also like female characters to be bad-ass than hopelessly innocent. Like the anime You'reUnder Arrest is also an appealing anime just like Gunsmith Cats. |

Well out of all the billions of people in the world, there's bound to be SOMEONE who likes SOMETHING, no matter what it is. So does Gunsmith Cats appeal to girls? It may or may not mean to be, but can it still appeal to girls? Definitely.
I'm a straight, 20 year old male who likes Fruits Basket and His and Her Circumstances by the way.

Sure, that is the case in perspective. Even though the possibilities are there, the ways that GATSU mentioned are also possibilities. Take it this way, the girl (who may or may not look like a Gunsmiths Cats fan) could be wearing the shirt because she recognized it as an anime that she liked. That would mean she would be part of the percentile of girls that found the anime appealing. Well the other or second thing that GATSU mentioned, which the girl wore the shirt because of the picture and logo of the anime, but has no idea what it is. I say, 'Sure' that happens. There have been known anime fans who like to buy something because its 'Cool' and has no idea until he/she finds out at the end. Moreover, the girl could have liked the picture on the shirt because she like the concept of girls with guns with other reasons that goes with it. |

What? YUA ("mini-specials" aside) is something that can appeal to broad demographics. It's got strong leads, a bit of humour, a bit of action and a bit of drama. It's got equal appeal to men and women and it's accessable to kids, teens and adults. Gunsmith Cats, on the other hand, is just Kenichi Sonada's ode to his three favourite things: cars, guns and sex with children. I fail to see the connection between the two. |

You are true and right about the demographics. Surely, Gunsmith Cats is nothing compared to You're Under Arrest demographically as you say, but thats because of fan base. Plus, with YUA having many releases than Gunsmith Cats (having just the OAVs), it also increases the range. To continue on to what I said before. Gunsmith Cats is appealing just like YUA, because no matter how anybody thinks comparatively to both of their material, it gives an appeal to both genders. Besides both are action and comedy, it has at least some similarities. I was just talking about the appeal than comparing the material of the two animes. I take your word for it that Kenenichi Sonada and his three favorite things. However, much of that intent is seen more in his mangas I believe. As I remember right, the OAVs does not quite give the feel just like in manga. |

I'm a female fan and I adore Gunsmith Cats. I would love it if they made more anime adaptations of the manga, since what I've read of the manga is great.
Gunsmith Cats for me is a lot of fun, because Rally, Minnie-May, Becky, and Misty break the mold of the standard anime female - they are smart, independent, strong, and highly skilled at their respective specialty. Gunsmith Cats is one series where you won't see one of the girls tripping over their own feet, running into sign posts, or just acting incompetent. I'm not usually a guns and car-chase type of person, but Kenichi Sonada's love for guns and cars is so strong, that you can't help but share his enthusiasm for them. But pedophilia? I don't know if I would accuse him of being a pedophile just because of May. Maybe I just like May's character enough that the weirdness of it doesn't bother me. |

Of all the anime titles I have seen, Gunsmith Cats is by far the most American. They drive an American mussel car through Chicago while wielding guns and explosives on a quest for their target. It's a slightly more modern take on the classic western.
Given that, it is easy to see why it would appeal to a large portion of the US fanbase. Too bad the animation style is as dated as it is, because I believe it would be the type of title which may be a good shot in the arm for the industry. |

Yeah, that's true - I was thinking of the GSC manga, the GSC Burst manga and the (awful) Riding Bean OAV.
That evokes a wonderful mental image...but I think you meant "muscle car".

A little known fact is that the State of Illinois has made it illeagel to act as a 'Bond Enforcement Agent' (Bounty Hunter) within the state. Only sworn Law Enforcement Officers may make arrestes of bond violators.
However several other states, including but not limited to, Florida, Gerorga, Alabama, Mississippi, Washington, Hawaii, and Utah (I think  ) allow the use of private Bond Enforcement Agents.
