I have wished for this day for so long!

And it's FUNimation, no less! What more could I possibly ask for?

You all just made my day. Smile So much love.

My thoughts:

Wow.

Them licensing this and Shigurui has given me infinite hope for Mononoke.

I'm definitely buying this. Sure, it's overtly open to the yaoi fangirls and has its share of melodrama, but bottom line it's also very good with its respect to baseball, characterization that isn't shallow and rather high production values.

I stumbled across this series a short while ago and i love it. Even with the high praise it has received i never ever thought a baseball anime/manga would be licensed here. Im in on this one. Tajima is awesome!

Although I'll probably rent this on Netflix when released, I heard the main character is similar to Shinji Ikari from Eva. Is this true?

Because I really don't think I can watch a series with a character like Shinji.

Usually I'm not too interested in sports anime/manga, but Oofuri caught my eye when it got a spot in an issue of Newtype USA a while back.
I think it's worth a look; it seems to be pretty good from what I've heard. It's another license I really didn't see coming (But Dokuro-chan from Media Blasters still takes the cake several times over)

How does this pander to the yaoi fangirls? Just because it's a large male cast?

I'm interested by the high outpouring of admiration from is thread and AoDVD; I'm curious what exactly everyone likes about this series other than just, "This is awesome!"

Also would a non-baseball fan like this? I reluctantly veered away from Hajime no Ippo even though it got rave reviews because I simply detest boxing. However, I have no strong aversion to baseball; the sport itself I just find uninteresting for the most part.

I guess that means Del Rey's releasing the manga here.

There are archetypes that are ripped right out of shoujo with a yaoi bent, along with lines and relationships that have an obvious homosexual bent.

It also apparently gives a lot of material to the yaoi doujinshi market.

Very likable characters (Mihashi may not have the depth of Shinji Ikari and is actualyl a cry baby, but he grows on ya), good direction, very, very consistent and high production values, great respect to the sport, nice focus on the elements of playing as a team as opposed to individual performances, etc.

Yes. I'd also say that someone who dislikes boxing (I do myself) would like Hajime no Ippo, as well.

Basically, Hellkorn summarizes Oofuri perfectly, it's a pretty good show (although I stopped watching after the first nine episodes). This a very surprising announcement even though I always had a feeling that it'd get licensed too. Razz

Oofuri captures what makes baseball captivating to watch, IMHO. I don't normally watch, let alone buy sports anime but this is on my short list to get already.
