Wow, I am just surprized this series is still popular after so many years. One would belive this type of show would be forgotten in today's anime world.

Hello Kitty is worth billions, and is one of, if not the, most recognised Japanese icon in the world. Considering the current frosty relations between China and Japan, this makes a lot of sense, but it's also short term.

A non-existent cat now holds an official state position. I think I had a dream where that happened.

I vote Hello Kitty for Crewe Bi-election.

Quoted because of the interesting statement. Or a parody of some sort.

Every time a Tibetan is jailed, God kills a hello kitten.

I'd rather more fictional characters get all the cushy ambassadorships... less of the tax-payer's money wasted on political paybacks.
Plus I find it hard to believe that Hello Kitty will royally screw up and cause an international incident, unlike some REAL ambassadors.

Moreover, now Hello Kitty can make a public apology to China for the Rape of Nanking (thus smoothing relations between the two countries without forcing any Japanese politicians to subject themselves to a bit of unthinkable public awkwardness).
And if that works, maybe Pikachu can tour the world as the ambassador of the Japanese whaling industry.
So I too see a bright future for anime ambassadors. The US has experimented with using muppets as ambassadors (e.g. John Bolton and Robert H. Tuttle) but Japan's 2D method seems to work so much better...

I hope their tourist ambassador to the United States will be Badtz Maru or Tuxedo Sam.
