To further contextualize the internet thing, think of it this way. In a standard public school class size of 30 kids, 2 of them won't have internet. That means they can't grow up with video games like you may have, let alone be able to do all the other things we as a mid- and post-COVID society need them to do.
If companies were really doing concerned about piracy (hence all these online requirements) they would do everything in their power to make games as easy to access as possible so as to make piracy seem inconvenient by comparison.

I hope Capcom still has that catchy yet unfitting opening for Onimusha 2. Jpop with demons.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that with digital Switch games, you only need to open the game once while connected to the internet to be able to play it whenever (I don't know if this applies to carts). Which isn't perfect, but definitely better than constantly needing a connection.

Digimon was my announcement of the day (AHHHHH) but Lost Souls Aside looks good too, hopefully worth the wait.

One interesting (if entirely unannounced) consequence of the PSN outage was (apparently) a truly ridiculous amount of low-effort shovelware being delisted from the PSN Store en masse. That still shouldn't have taken the entire system down for a day (especially considering how everything is tied to PSN these days), but it wasn't for nothing and also (apparently) wasn't a random unavoidable accident. I've worked in tech long enough to know that people don't generally anticipate use cases like that when building out these systems, but hopefully they're thinking about it now.
But onto brighter things, that Digimon trailer! The Cyber Sleuth games aren't just among the best Digimon games, they're also among the best RPGs of the PSVita/PS4 era. It looks like we'll be getting more variety in the Digital World visuals in exchange for revisiting a lot of the same Tokyo maps as the first game, but I'm okay with that. I was in Tokyo just last month and visited a number of the locations CS recreated, and they're still mostly accurate 10 years later (Nakano Broadway is an actual maze). The Yakuza games use the same Kabuki-cho map as a base every game, too. What matters most to me is the Mons, and they look fantastic. The Steam listing also has some pretty dark stuff in the content warnings, so I think it's safe to say that this will be a true successor in more than just the aesthetics.
(There was one games journalist on the entire web I knew I could count on to play "Who's that Digimon?" Glad to have a name to the face besides "WeHaveLordEnmaAtHomeMon".)

Quote: | I'm stunned that Bandai Namco looked back and decided to give Digimon Story a third go. |
This is not the third shot at a digimon story game its the 6th. It the 5th to get a western release, but only the 3rd to keep the Story part of its title, since Digimon World DS and Dawn/Dusk dropped it for the "World" title, most likely for marketing reasons at the time.
I've been waiting for this game for a while, Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory were a lot of fun. We've know about this game being in development for like 7 years and it finally happening. The one big change I hope they make from Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory is the EXP system it was way too grindy.

We'll see how it turns out, but so far, it seems like Konami is being really thoughtful with Delta. Replacing Apes with Bomberman is a smart way to keep the game mode and just do a little cross promotion of one of their own IP in the process. Stuff like adjusting some of the difficulty with the newer controls at least says they learned a lesson from Twin Snakes.
The PSN outage really shows how directly companies control what we can do without us noticing. Things like not being able to verify the main Playstation someone used affected the ability to play downloaded games. Personally, I could still play Cyberpunk like I planned on Saturday with the only difference being saves didn't sync to the cloud. Then on Sunday, the game kept freezing in the main menu because it got stuck trying to sync multiple saves all at once. It sorted itself out, but after being so far into the game, I probably would have just shelved it if it didn't.

So they went with Musashi. Guess they're getting as much out of using Mifune as the likeness as they can (and I can't blame them, who wouldn't?). Intriguing that they're avoiding Soulsy combat and going for a more visceral approach with a lot of environmental interaction. Seems to be the right approach because unfortunately the problems of the Souls approach have been exposed with not enough depth to keep supporting these increasingly difficult bosses save for breaking the game's systems and turning into "unga bunga, just melt whatever's in front of you."
As for MGS Delta, I demand a Switch 2 port have Snake vs Pikmin

To be entirely clear: I didn't recognize Aegiomon at first! I picked up on him courtesy of a few other folks picking him out. Special credit goes to one artist I follow who noticed AngeWomon in the trailer has different teeth, so she might be an evolution for DemiDevimon.

I was very, very nervous at the prospect of Konami making another Metal Gear without Kojima. The prospect of it being a remake of Snake Eater also had me rather distrustful. But I've been eating my words at every turn; Konami has good people working on this. They're not screwing around with this.

The State of Play was a letdown as usual, but the new Onimusha seems promising; if I wind up playing it, I'll look forward to Hosoya Yoshimasa's performance as Musashi.

They're really not. It has the same generic knockoff look as Bloober's Silent Hill 2 remake, and there still hasn't been anything to suggest it'll be much of an upgrade, let alone one worth buying. I really don't get how anyone is into such bland remakes.

To be honest, I always felt that MGS needed to move beyond Kojima and Kojima needed to face a reality every senior designer runs into: at some point you have to choose between being on the ground floor as a designer and being a producer who nurtures new talent, you can't do both. He clearly wanted to move away from MGS but at the same time became overprotective of anyone else trying something with it (remember, he basically decanonized Portable Ops because he wasn't involved in it). His relationship with the series was very unhealthy, and it definitely explains why a lot of the writing became increasingly depressing and the characters just nastier and nastier.
As such, I'm all for bringing in new voices to get involved in Metal Gear and see where things could go with it. Like maybe doing a new Metal Gear Rising.

I'm not much a fan either but a lot of people, especially younger gamers, don't like to play games more than a few years old let alone ones from 20+ years ago. To Delta's credit it looks like it might be one of the most faithful remakes in terms of not changing things. The fact they're even using the old voice tracks and not recasting and re-recording everything is something I wish we saw more of. Or at least options to toggle between new and vocal tracks. Star Ocean The Second Story R lets you do that with the new and old Japanese VAs.

Kojima's relationship with MGS is fascinating. He'd been trying to shake off his directorial role in the games since Snake Eater (they somehow roped him in by the end), and even the reveal trailer for MGS4 revealed that Kojima was essentially tied to the project. And sure, MGS is his baby, but it's also obvious that he was trying to move away from a number of core aspects (especially when you get to stuff like Venom Snake being voiced by Keifer Sutherland and not David Hayter).
The whole situation between Konami and Kojima shouldn't have gone down the way it did, but the outcome was for the best. Kojima has a blank check to make games as weird as he wants with all the Hollywood celebs he wants (also, they're pretty good games at that). Konami finally has their ducks in a row regarding production of MGS. And hey, Kojima might actually make a new movie with that new tactical espionage game he's working on.
