I wonder if they’ll eventually try licensing all the World Theater anime.
I’m still hyped for the Full Moon release. |

They got Romeo through a third party (Synergetic) rather than directly through Nippon Animation. They mentioned that this will be the first WMT show to get a home video release in the U.S., which suggests Nippon might not be the easiest to work with when it comes to those. |

Oh heck yeah. Vampire Miyu fascinated me when I rented it from the video store when I was basically a baby (my family’s opinion was if it’s a cartoon violence/nudity don’t count.

Same! They also mentioned on their stream that they "Might have a miracle in the works" (they just can't say it yet). Although, their product description doesn't mention if it'll include the Viz dub or not, other than its just a 2 set collection. However, I'm hoping that "miracle" could either be the Viz dub included, probably with just only the dubbed episodes that they only had on the DVD's back in the day, or maybe they might have gotten the rest of the episodes that Viz may have dubbed past the cancelled DVD releases, but were never seen the light of day. (Or maybe a re-dub, but that's probably too expensive.) After the DVD release was cancelled, due to low sales most likely, they streamed Full Moon on Hulu, but sub only (back when it was free to watch and wasn't subscription based yet). Of course, that was long ago and its no longer there. Later episodes past the DVD releases on the episodes Hulu streamed had English credits when the ending themes were played. |

Wow, Romeo's Blue Skies!!! I didn't think any company would get a World Masterpiece Theater, well I thought Discotek would be the first to get a World Masterpiece Theater, but this is mind blowing even for me.
![]() But great job AnimEigo and Justin Servakis for getting that particular piece of work. Maybe it'll lead to more WMT titles being license and pick up for the US market, but I suspect Discotek, or even GKIDS may pick those up, I can imagine GKIDS could pick up the 1979 Anne of Green Gables anime that the late Isao Takahata directed (and maybe the prequel anime that came out in 2009, assuming they can also license that one too) in light of the upcoming Anne Shirley anime, and given that GKIDS was able to get Future Boy Conan back in 2021. I don't ruled out that possibility. Last edited by mdo7 on Tue Feb 11, 2025 1:19 am; edited 1 time in total |

I'm really looking forward to Full Moon, Vampire Princess Miyu, Black Jack, Sasuke, and Romeo's Blue Skies. I was losing out hope on those World Masterpiece Theater anime so hopefully this means more is possible.

I'm hoping and looking forward to see more WMT anime titles getting license and I don't think AnimEigo won't be the only one that'll be picking those up. As I said in the above post, I can see Discotek and GKIDS picking up WMT titles too. I know GKIDS will probably be the one picking up the 1979 Anne of Green Gable anime (and probably the 2009 prequel anime, assuming they can get that one) given that title was directed by the late Isao Takahata, and to cash in and hyped up for the upcoming Anne Shirley anime. So yeah, I think I wouldn't be surprised if my prediction on this post could come true. |

I'm wondering why the HD remaster of Romeo's Blue Skies is in widescreen. Was it animated that way or are they cropping the original image?
Usually only movies gave you aspect ratio options on home video. Like, I still have the old double-sided DVD for "Weird Al" Yankovic's UHF; one side was widescreen, the other was full-screen (4:3). |

I cannot BELIEVE Romeo’s Blue Skies, Nobody’s Boy Remi, AND Black Jack
are getting official home video releases. Three shows I never thought would see the light of day in the US! Count me in for all three. |

Wow, that's an impressive slate Animeigo. I'll be grabbing Black Jack for sure and I'll likely pick up Romeo's Blue Skies to support the potential release of future World Masterpiece Theatre titles. I know nothing is guaranteed, but sales help and they show the license holders that we want more.
Vampire Princess Miyu is also interesting. I've never seen it, but I've been aware of it since my early days as an anime fan. I'm happy to continue supporting Animeigo, all their releases I've bought have been really well done. |

I will absolutely pick up Black Jack, Romeo's Blue Skies and Sasuke. This is great stuff!
A shame Romeo is only in HD as widescreen, but I'll settle with 4:3 SD. I just really don't like it when they crop/stretch. |

I think more of the WMT franchise is arguably 1of the Holy Grails of anime in the USA, licensing wise. |

Oh, heck yes! At last a WMT show is coming to disc!
The cropped HD is unfortunate, but it seems that's just the way these shows are remastered, given that some of the others have been on streaming services and they're always cropped. And since there's at least an SD fullscreen option offered, I'll take it! |

Technically, if we were to get a bit pedantic, Romeo's Blue Skies is the second WMT show to get a US home video release, since the Dororo anime from 1969 (or, at least, it's second half) was the first one, since that was the very first WMT anime, back when it was initially called Calpis Manga Theater. However, strictly speaking from a literal "World Masterpiece Theater" perspective, Romeo's Blue Skies is the first one.
The dub was confirmed to be included back when Full Moon was first announced at Otakon last year, and Justin also admitted that while there was full admittance from Viz that more was dubbed beyond what was released on DVD there were seemingly no audio masters for those episodes whatsoever. A "miracle" would most definitely be AnimEigo somehow finding masters for those extra episodes, despite all indications they got indicating that they no longer exist.
It was stated in the stream that Nippon Animation went over each & every shot for the 16:9 HD remaster & re-framed them so that they best fit the new aspect ratio. So, yes, while it is cropped it wasn't simply given a basic "one size fits all" treatment & instead was pretty much recut to best take advantage of it. But it is cool that the original 4:3 version is still getting included. Personally, the best new announcement for me were the Black Jack OVAs & Sasuke. |
