My reaction to this one was pretty much the same as Caitlin's, and (twin context aside, since I'm not one) for pretty much the same reasons. On both artistic and writing fronts, it lacked the spark needed to be compelling. I did finish it, but I can't see myself ever wanting to rewatch it.

The only thing I would add to the review is that whilst I agree that the main guy wasn't worth fighting over, neither were the twins. Describing the relationship between the three as "unhealthy" would be putting it mildly, the guy would definitely have been justified in cutting them off as neither really treated him like a person.

I looked up the expletive in Urban Dictionary and still could not decide what it meant in this context. 
Yet somehow it was made to work with a 250% increase from twins to quintuplets. Script writing does matter, it seems.
Rom-com plot armor equivalent.
Have to agree, since I cannot remember what I single one of them looks like.
The worst sin for some of us is the show fails in their appearance (and also in other aspects as Terraziel notes) to make the twins "waifu material".
The show could be used as the anime definition of "meh". I rated it Weak. |

Who better to review this show than a fraternal twin herself?
Honestly though I think they actually do a decent job of establishing why the love triangle is the way it is. Half of episode 1 is dedicated to showing why Rumi fell for Jun and their subsequent romantic relationship inexplicably links them together in a messy relationship way. Meanwhile we see with Naori that she views Jun as an intellectual equal and someone she sees as on her level and gets along with in a way she can't with other people, and that's very clear during their dates in the first half of the season. I also think you're underselling the supporting cast because I feel like, even setting aside Shiena, they all contribute something to the show and play off the main trio well. Moriwaki is basically the typical horny guy who puts Jun's position in an anime love triangle in perspective, Reira who basically speaks for the audience when it comes to Rumi's behavior and takes her to task for screwing herself over with Jun, and Kamedake who is one of the few characters who can keep up with Naori and also cut her down to size when she's getting to hammy (which for Naori is often). Overall I won't say the visuals were stellar but serviceable for the kind of show this is and I feel like they did a good job of depicting a grounded yet messy relationship drama among teens. I always understood and believed the feelings of the characters involved and on some level understood why they were acting the way they were, even if it wasn't always in a good way. Also Naori is Best Girl. And she knows it! |
