I'm with the reviewer on this one as somebody who also enjoyed recitation in high school (we called it "declamation"). It was actually a standalone grade on our report cards where we had to memorize and recite a piece of literature in English class three times a year. As we got older, there was also a chance to do it in Latin and whatever modern language we were taking at the time. Really nothing better than getting over anxiety and getting good at public presentations as an adult than doing something like this as a teenager.

It was even competitive, doing it in front of 400 people if you were really itching to do it. I regret only doing it once (and got a 4th place finish out of 12 which made me chuffed to bits).

Looking forward to this anime.

Man, competitive Speech. That takes me (a long way) back to high school, and cold weekend mornings riding a bus across the state. I was on the Discussion squad of our Speech team (which also had a lot of Theater overlap, myself included), so while I certainly watched more than a few rounds of people reciting or otherwise speaking words real good, I could be found sitting around a table conversing about the various hot topics of the time. On top of that, my school started a media/broadcast program during my senior year of high school that I was a part of, having the run of the fancy custom live broadcasting computer the school had bought, so I can key in on that aspect of the show too.

Even without those personal connections, this was one of the first new shows of the season to hook me. It looks great, especially when it dives into the metaphorical imagery, the cast has some real good chemistry, and it's focusing on an activity that hasn't been run into the ground.

I've always wondered why anime characters can never be a member of two clubs—if schools in Japan, perhaps, have stricter rules about club attendance than schools in the States do.

According to the poorly-designed charts on this article, multiple clubs happen but it's rare. I had always imagined that it was just a Japanese culture thing--that, and Japanese universities not needing 170 extracurriculars as part of their entry requirements.

This looks like a decent anime. The two main leads who are both girls look so cute together. I would love to see them become a couple in the end. I think I will give this anime a try but before I do, I need to check who create-

Ayano Takeda, the Hibike! Euphonium author.

Ooooohhhh...... Never mind, then.

Believe it or not L washing Light's feet isn't gay at all. It's representing L (as Jesus) washing Light (Judas's) feet as he knows he's going to die by his doing. It's extremely symbolic to the series and not in the manga but a smart deep scene for the anime. Sad the symbolism is just looked at as yaoi feet washing...

My hypothesis was Mizuki was tired of smelling Hana's stinky feet but did not want to embarrass her by mentioning it. Embarassed

That was probably the second gayest foot bath scene in anime history.

This series was created by Ayano Takeda, who also created Sound! Euphonium. Admittedly, I didn't watch that anime (no particular reason why; I just haven't gotten around to it). But I know enough about it to know not to get my hopes up for some canon romance between Hana and Mizuki, even if the series itself couldn't make it feel like a more correct and obvious pairing if there was a scene where a skywriter wrote “❤️ Hana + Mizuki ❤️“ in the sky.

I know the writer already said in the article but I would love to remind them that this is an anime adaptation of a work written by Ayano Takeda, the author of Sound! Euphonium. You know, the biggest yuribait series in recent history. Ayano herself hated that it's being liked for a yuri ship that she didn't have in mind instead of what the whole series was all about, so she ended it in het.

To the reviewers of this anime, I seriously advise you to not bring up your yuri fantasies and expectations and just review it based on its merits. Pretend that any yuri subtext between Hana and Mizuki or any girl-girl pair doesn't exist.

To the yuri fans who think they will get some yuri out of this anime, please don't bother. Consider Euphonium as a warning shot to you all. It's not worth giving yourselves false hope and then getting baited into watching your "lesbian" protagonists ending up with males. This anime has many males who can be the female MCs' love interests. Don't be the kind of a yuri fan who looks for yuri breadcrumbs in a non-yuri series, especially when it's a het harem one.

To everyone else who's interested in this anime, please watch it for anything that's not yuri. The anime looks nice and the girls are cute and sexy. I'll give them that.

Rather than commenting on the above, go read this.

I do not have to pretend (my usual lack of working yuri goggles).

It being a radio doesn't surprise me as much, just because Japan still heavily uses fax machines and requires paper documents... and last I heard, it's still a relatively low amount of the general population that knows how to use an actual computer versus the phone.

It is one of those things that always trips me out. They make some of the most well-known, advanced electronics but are so backwards with their own day to day technology.

I was going to say much the same. The government had to officially wage war against floppy disks recently.. and declared victory in June 2024. Here most people born after about 1998 don't even know what one looks like.

And in the entertainment sphere there's no shortage of actual bonafide podcasts referred to as "radio". Many anime have such voice actor "radio" shows associated with them. The use of the school PA system to broadcast real-time to students is much more justifiably "radio".

(Having said that, this was clearly a joke and we're ruining it by being pedantic)

Sadly being male and enjoying Straight coupling is looked down upon nowadays. Along with being white and/or Christian. You might as well be Hitler/The Devil then. I don't actively shit on LBGT+ coupling but a lot of them tend to shit on any Straight coupling in media for some reason.
