Uh... PayPal does NOT allow purchasing 18+ stuff too. Their policy also forbids using their system in adult sites. |

For awhile there the saving grace was that companies didn't check stuff often, most places flew under the radar enough that companies wouldn't notice what they are about. Now it feels like someone is really looking out and banning stuff, the fact it has been several different companies makes me feel like it is an external pressure. |

When did Manga Planet get an Android app? It's not showing up the Google Play store for me, and the FAQ on their site (at https://mangaplanet.com/support/) is showing they have no app.

Yeah, this sounds more like suggesting a company that hasn't outright declined them yet. As FishLion said, stuff might not fly under the radar like it has before. I've seen other companies get around their own payment processor issues by doing things like use a fictitious name and explaining on their FAQ that your bill will show up under that name instead, and I've always questioned how long that would work. It's still beyond me that people care so much about what others buy that they've pressured these companies to interfere like this. |

Several US states have imposed age verification requirements for porn sites, and a lawmaker in Oklahoma is pushing for a statewide ban on pornography. Payment processors will probably be even more cautious than they have been moving forward.

Reminder that while social pressures and government regulations are a factor in payment processors declining porn purchases, a much bigger one is that the chargeback rates on adult material are massive.

Oh right. I somewhat forgot about that but I remember a few years ago I went from being able to make purchases through Mastercard on gacha games I downloaded through Qooapp. To going cold turkey on microtransactions against my will (probably for the better ) and when I looked into it I didn't see any outside pressure but instead what the Japanese companies were saying is that the chargebacks because of foreigners buying mostly 18+ material was why they were banning certain credit cards. And I was just spending money on gacha transactions that were to my knowledge not even related to these companies which certainly felt like a domino effect. So it certainly feels like the chickens coming home to roost and not even so much on the companies side but the consumer side that apparently really "puts their money where their mouth is" especially for 18+ content that they crusade for. |

A while back there was a company who made a certain software, and PayPal didn't allow anyone within the United States to send direct payments to that company through their service. But the way around it was to use PayPal to purchase Bitcoin (or other type of cryptocurrency) and use that to send a payment to the company through an anonymous crypto address. So I suspect that if normal payment processing companies are going to start restricting what people are allowed to spend their own money on, we'll start seeing an uptick on people using cryptocurrency to make the payments. |

I've been using Paypal on Manga Planet for like 6 months to read Soremachi. |

Japan should introduce a forced payment platform neutrality law. Is it legal to sell? Then you're not allowed to decline service.
Or alternatively start offering a digital JCB pre-paid debit card globally. |

It's never a good thing when corporations are preventing customers from purchasing art.
