The first episode of Magic Maker did not look amazing nor is the premise all that unique, it did however succeed in making me want to see more of it. Most isekai these days have a rushed info dump in the first episode to the point where there is no mystery remaining. Magic Maker in contrast takes the time to set up the family, their bonds and only at the ending of the episode do things start happening. Said happening is also not the mc suddenly turning OP but having a starting point to investigate magic from.
Thus I am curious about how the mc will develop magic and the magic itself feels special instead of just being able to do crazy shit after reading some grimoires. |

Hmm, I sure have mixed feelings on the second episode. The fact that learning to use magic is actually a challenge and not something to be achieved in half an episode feels fresh. The fairy shop at the end also seems to suggest something interesting. On the other hand... those initial 5 or so minutes this week sure were something. The brother/sister segments also remind me a litte of Yosuga no Sora but hopefully I am wrong about that.

It is a bit of a pity that not many have picked up the show since it does surprise in certain ways. Episode 3 had goblins and where in 99% of other shows they are pure fodder that is very much not the case here. In Magic Maker goblins look like they have jumped straight out of a horror and are pretty darn difficult to take down, it had me flash back to Grimgar for abit.
Also a pleasant surprise are actual decent parents who listen to their children and talk things out in a calm manner. |
