If MY GO was watching a bunch of girls pick up the pieces after a car crash, this one is watching a car crash happen in slow motion. And I'm loving it so far.

I'm also giving this show the benefit of the doubt and hoping they are writing checks that they are gonna cash later down the line, cause right now I'm loosing my mind seeing girlie pop straight up disassociating at multiple points and having a full personality change at the end of episode 3 only to have everyone around her be like "damn, she's a good actress" and not "damn, get her to the hospital".

Don't let Mutsumi go up on the school roof by herself - will it get that dark?

We need a third season with the focus back on MyGO!!!!!, since their story is far from finished. In particular I want to know more about the (apparently autistic) Stray Cat.

Almost like Arael was there probing her mind.

The third episode had me rethinking the CRYCHIC breakup scene way back in the beginning of It’s MyGO!!!!! This episode’s focus on Mutsumi reveals her loyalty to Sakiko, as well as how important playing the guitar is to her. So in that flashback, when Mutsumi says “I’ve never had one moment of fun playing in this band”, is she even telling the truth, or is she instinctively taking Sakiko’s side in a sudden argument with Soyo?

There is a difference between the original BanG Dream! and both BanG Dream! It's MyGo!!!!! and Ave Mujica - The Die is Cast - that oddly enough has not been mentioned in the reviews for the latter shows.
Yes, ecchi (of the mild sort). The original BanG Dream! had many, depending on one's point of view, either loving views of beautiful girls thighs (such as conversations where the girls are shown only above the knees and below the waist) or "disgusting male gaze", and the occasional views (including that of middle school student Asuka Toyama) of posteriors in very tight shorts.
The reason I bring this up is that some people studiously avoid any show with ecchi, and therefore may have avoided the original series, but would have not have to skip the latter shows (which are excellent).

It's getting kinda hard to suspend my disbelief that no one would call an adult, but I'll say it's pretty bold to make a bandori show where I'm 50/50 on someone being dead by the end.

Well, if Mitsumi's parents are too busy being celebrities to notice her breakdown followed by a dramatic personality change, not much a bunch of high school girls can do about it.

Quite a realistic portrayal of Dissociative Identity Disorder, actually. Assuming that's what's going on. OK, quite theatrical in it's own, gothic, dramatic way, but still gets a few things right, having met one such case myself. Split personalities are more often associated with trauma, sometimes to segregate harmful memories, or to create a shield, like a personality that's bolder, for instance. The one thing I think is different from the case I know of is the whole segregation of knowledge thing, like playing the guitar. But then again, variations are likely to exist in real life, so...
Loved it.

Why is the best show of the season getting so little attention - is girl's band really such an unpopular genre, or is it still fallout from the original BanG Dream! being only slightly more serious than K-ON!/K-ON!!
Christopher Farris wrote: | ...with Tomori asking Sakiko to join a band with her... |
Well, MyGO!!!!! does lack a keyboard player, but they would need to rename the band to "MyGO!!!!!!" - some of us are hoping that will happen. I believe that Stray Cat would find Sakiko "interesting".
Christopher Farris wrote: | ...MyGO!!!!!'s true MVP, Anon, to step up. Look, the shippers have been dying to see Anon and Sakiko properly interact. If Anon using all her alleged track and field skills to hold Sakiko's limousine so Tomori can catch up is all there is as a moment of comic relief from this wonderful pink idiot, I'm still going to be grateful for it. |
We can want Anon and Sakiko to interact without wanting yuri (intra-band romance is a bad idea). Anon is not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to people, but if the other girls were heading to the beach to defend against Operation Downfall's amphibious invasion, she would use her track skills to go to the front and lead the group's banzai charge.
Christopher Farris wrote: | Of course, as far as intentions go, Sakiko and Tomori, with Anon standing blissfully off to the side, are doing a damn sight better than Soyo.... The anime's direction using the full force of its horror-movie framing of Mortis to freak out Soyo is incredibly worth it in this specific instance. |
As bad as Soyo's actions have been, we should remember that she was genuinely hurt by the breakup of CRYCHIC. Also she has been raising herself with an absentee father and a mother who is almost never home, and as a "lost girl" she is still worthy of getting a redemption arc (and we should not forget that Anon who has the most reason to have a grievance over has forgiven Soyo).
