So the leaked synopsis was right. I have to admit, I was hoping it wasn't true at first, because that's the most fan fictiony premise for a Gundam show we've gotten and it sounds like dumb wish fulfillment.
Buuuut, considering this is also knowing it leads into something with out there designs and has a very interesting staff, it's clearly not so straight forward. High expectations, though, so I hope it is as good as described here and stays good. |

This caught me by surprise. Char piloting the Gundam sounds insane (though does the Hyaku Shiki count?) over Amuro. For a second, I thought the reason to this is becasue of Toru Furuya's controversial life that led to the removal of some of his characters.

I wanted to see how this would play out as a TV series. I actually like that this will be a what-if story in the Universal Century.

Char has piloted a version of the RX-78 before in Gihren's Greed, it has been a basic part of the "What if Zeon won the war" scenario for pretty much as long as people have imagined it. |

Hyaku Shiki is a failed Gundam prototype. I don´t think it counts.
Toru Furuya´s abusive past was revealed last May. There isn´t enough time for this project to respond to any of that besides a recast. Metaphor: ReFantazio is one such case. Very last minute too due to how early games get their acting done. Furuya won´t get to voice the role that made him a star again in any capacity but Amuro is a character is here to stay. He is one of the most important sci-fi or animanga characters of all time. There would be no Evagelion without him. Co-writer Anno would be the very last person to sunset Amuro. Tomino has already made two what if. In the Zeta Gundam trilogy he completely retconned the ending. In an ova, he also have Quess a more lighthearted arc retcons Hathaway. Now it's KKhara's time to retcon uc

Thinking about it now I wonder what this might say about the status of UC NexT 0100, which we've gotten very little for besides Narrative and Hathaway. Did they quietly abandon it? Will we just have an alternate universe UC running alongside a push for more post-Unicorn pre-F91 UC content?

Gundam Hathaway is part of UC NexT 0100. Arguably the cornerstone, at least when it was green-lit. Gundam Narrative started that project in 2018 with its GREATLY expanded manga by Harutoshi Fukui still ongoing. Fukui´s Moon Gundam manga (total trash) is set right before that timeframe and is still ongoing. One of the many Unicorn Gaiden stories.
There are multiple manga or LNs for F91, Crossbone and even Victory being published right now. Those are on a lower continuity ladder but are only deemed non-canon if an anime contradicts them. I´ll eat a broom if the abysmal Crossbone sequels ever make it into an anime but Moon Gundam is most likely 100% canonical and designed with model kits in mind, unlike the super robot-esque Crossbone line. UC NexT 0100´s anime output was likely derailed by Covid as things stand but not its print arm. Hathaway needs to end before the flood gates can open. |
