Why was Magic Knight Rayearth overshadowed by Cardcaptor Sakura in terms of popularity?

Rayearth was on VHS, and a lot of titles on VHS only were very popular with anime fans in the states like Ranma 1/2, Slayers, Record of Losswar, Evangelion, Tenchi Muyo, Bubblegum Crisis, etc. I remember Rayearth being a thing, but not as the same level of popularity as those.

Thought I'd post a reply here rather than starting a new thread:

Prime Video's YouTube channel just featured Magic Knight Rayearth. Checked the app and it's not available in the Philippines, so I'm assuming it's only streaming in the U.S.

Wish they'd gone with using clips with Japanese audio and English subtitles, since the English dub isn't very good.

I personally think that the Rayearth dub is good but then again most of the dubs i've watched are my Manga UK or Streamline
