This explaines why the flashback was so long. It was the entire POINT of Mars Chronicles, which makes total sense in hindsight. I just thought that MC was supposed to be the finale of the story and the prequel stuff was just one part of it. Guess not... or guess not anymore? Maybe plans changed? Anyway, I'm missing present day Alita so this is win win for me. Not that I minded the flashback, it was 10 kinds of fucked up, which is always a plus for me.

I fell off of this one after vol. 6, but knowing there's a definite upcoming ending to this part of the story may motivate me to get caught up.

Doubtful, unless James Cameron has released his hold on the franchise. Also, the original series has never gotten more than a two-episode OVA anime adaptation, so that would have to come first. (And I would dearly love to see that happen.) |

Cameron has the TV rights. That´s why an OVA-only character was in the movie. He would need to produce said anime so there is zero chance of that as he would need to give up on the films and admit that he failed.
It makes no sense to create a new manga and not just go on with Vol 12 but any excuse to get a new No. 1. It´s also better than Last Order. |

Glad to hear the story will finally be moving forward again.
I really enjoyed the early part of the manga, but it was getting harder and harder to care as it went along. Might have to re-read it one go at some point. |
