That's a "review" of all time... to say the least.
I'm glad new and old fans don't think the plot is slow, boring or irrelevant. The movie wouldn't have been as successful as it was if that was the case. Got a second version for a good reason.

watching this movie in the theatre was a fun time. A wonderful way to celebrate Shigeru Mizuki's 100th birthday  The True Birth edition of the film is also amazing

Yup, everyone is drawing yaoi of of this old man's self insert. In some versions he is really protective of Kitaro and helps raise him so a lot of people think of him as Kitaro's adoptive father dad. With Gegero's wife not being around people will portray them as a couple or think of them as co parents, which isn't something you see in the series cause Gegero dies and is reborn shortly after Kitaro's birth, but when you put two hot men in a show people are gonna smoosh them together.[/spoiler]

Sometimes I wonder what he would think about his self insert/homage being used for yaoi so much. One of my favorite bits of merch from the movie is the Toei-made double sided pillow with each character on either side. Something about Toei selling the pillow with the author homage on one side is so wild but aawesome to me.
