That one's definitely in Production Hell, along with the Mahershala Ali Blade.

Is the Akira movie still in the works?

Last I heard, the suits at Warner don’t want to make it because they know they’ll screw it up. There was allegedly supposed to be an Akira scene (and a Pokemon one) in Space Jam 2 that got nixed by executives.

A bit more elaborate. LeBron and Bugs were originally supposed to find Lola in the Akira universe. Got nixed.

Engines certainly are one of the biggest places where games break down and why it's so important to have a good tech department. One of the reasons Cyperunk ate shit was because they needed to do an engine-wide upgrade to include first person view and a ton of new assets. Unreal 3 got a lot of attention during the 7th Gen, but to be honest it wasn't all that good due to it not playing well anything outside of shooters. With what Monolith Soft has been able to do so far is impressive, so I wonder what the next version of their engine is able to do

Universal's got a nice deal going with Sega, what with the Sonic the Hedgehog films, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they've got a new movie announced with Sega.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movies are produced by Original Film and distributed by Paramount, not Universal.

While I'm at it, while Shinobi was far from the first ninja arcade game, not even from Sega (which put out Ninja Princess a.k.a. Sega Ninja in arcades two years earlier), it did beat the original Ninja Gaiden arcade game from Tecmo by the best part of a year (November 1987 for Shinobi vs. October 1988 for Ninja Gaiden), so it's probably more accurate to say that Ninja Gaiden was Tecmo's answer to Shinobi (although they're drastically different games if we're talking about gameplay since Ninja Gaiden arcade was basically a beat 'em up).
