I'm not sure how to put this, but it seems like there's something really off in how this is working. I think normally, the whole game doesn't run unless a player enters an area that triggers the game to run where someone is actually playing. We saw that in the evil debuggers getting caught in a loading sequence when they left the castle.
But with the current arc, the game seems to be running full time. What Yamanaka did to Gaydle isn't something that was originally scripted for the NPCs, so they shouldn't have any more storyline written for that. And yet they had a whole thing about what happened with Gaydle after Yamanaka left, with NPCs being killed by him and frustrations growing until they became homicidal. All this seems to have occurred without any additional player interaction, which means the game was still running in that area as if someone was actually playing there.
So basically, I'm not sure what to think about this. |
Anime usually takes the game genre and uses it more freely since sometimes it doesn't need for the spectator to know the basics of how a game works, so it can be made as if the characters were transported in a fantasy world (I mean, it's still Isekai even if it's a game). I think with vr games in anime what happens is that npcs have like AI intelligence, not only having a programed set of tasks so think of it kinda like chatgpt. Just my opinion.
Some games like Elden Ring and Bloodborne have npcs related to missions, sometimes depending on what you do they die, you will not see that moment, only the corpse or the destruction in the area, even if the game only loads the area that the player is in

Well, thats how you have to think of it.
But, the previous arc relied on their being separate instanced areas for player characters. This isn't just a simulated world but runs more like actual MMOs- sometimes. And sometimes it is a simulated world.
I think its one of those shows where its best not to look too closely at the world building because it wouldn't hold up.

Maybe the castle area is one of those that need to be loaded since it's inside, while the town where Gaydle lived is in the open world.
But yeah, sometimes it's better to just enjoy it and not think too deeply

But chatbots don't continue to have conversations or tell stories to themselves once you log off.

I'm not sure what to make of Akira's behavior. I guess she was pretty handsy when they met, so maybe it really is some company policy, but considering she was about to fight Haga to the death, that month we were told had passed didn't feel like enough. My suspicion is that it's some sort of bug or the influence of that AI. The jump in fanservice might be like the gore level being much higher than the game's projected rating was supposed to allow.

It was pretty disappointing to just end on a cliffhanger like that (and not knowing the story, I wonder if the boss having a second form is even necessary if they're a thousand floors down). At least I finally understand the rules to Texas Holdem now.
Was hoping Tesla would make some kind of appearance in this episode, but I guess if she did, she would've been able to resolve everything.

Quote: | I'm sorry, pressing play on the Theme Song Button does not automatically make it exciting when the big climax of your season finale is “A small child gets yelled at and walks a bit away from town, only to turn around and start walking back.” |
Oh James, how can you dismiss the gripping drama of the tragic but pivotal moment when the poor child was nearly broken by the cruel winds (literally) of fate that took her sandwich and threw it on the ground? Is your heart made of stone?

Well, this show was a solid 'could have been great.' Is it even remotely likely that it would get another season? From what I can tell, it's a very minimal budget production, so would any executive care enough to give it another chance? When I think about that, it makes the whole situation these reviews have pointed out even more disappointing.
