Again, while I'm not the biggest fan of the original Phantom Brave, Disgaea 6 and 7 have been the tiniest pinch same-y recently. 6 was a big letdown to longtime Disgaea fans due to the jump to 3D and a complete reset of the game systems and character classes that were available. Disgaea 7 did a fair job of picking up the slack and repairing some of the problems 6 had, however it doesn't feel as tight as 4 and 5 have in the past.
This new Phantom Brave has the potential to inject some new gameplay into the series and act as a bit of a "refresh" for Disgaea now that their 3D engine and assets are getting better. I'm really hoping this sees success and shows NIS that players want more, but not just "more of the same", y'know? Disgaea 7 still has a big expac in the pipeline and the series is in a unique and healthy space right now (from a player perspective) compared to where it was when Disgaea 6 was initially announced for the Switch. |
